czech wolfdog isn't a real wolf either but it looks pretty damn close

Actually, a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, or a Vlcak (pronounced Vull-chack) as they call them there, are pretty much wolves. They were the result of an experiment to breed police dogs with the loyalty and obedience of German Shepherds and the strength and endurance of Carpathian wolves. Vlcaks are literally wolf hybrids, so they could be described as real wolves as opposed to huskies which are far more removed from wolves. They are amazing though.

All species of dogs were once wolves. They're not even the result of evolution so much as selective breeding.

The line between dog and wolf is much more vague than it seems.

Yes, even chihuahuas.

You're right. There's even debate about whether or not you can tell a DNA difference between chihuahuas and wolves. (the companies that sell DNA tests are notoriously shady, that's why they insist on pictures too). Dogs, coyotes, and wolves are actually the same species, which is why they can produce fertile offspring. So, you're right, but I was referring directly to the fact that Vulcaks became wolf-dog hybrids in the 1930's, far more recent that huskies, who were domesticated several thousand years ago.

Just to clarify: Cs Wolfdog (Ceskoslovensky Vlcak) is a high content hybrid breed, now 7 generations from carpatian wolf and german shepherd (50/50, both lines) made by Army in the 50s.

Just 'Vlcak' is a czech term for 'German Shepherd' - an older (early 1900s) and much more tamer breed which has wolf ancestor too, but far less content.

As for dogs vs wolves - while these are same species - dogs are basically retarded wolves, they're stuck in puppy stage all their life (a quick evolutionary adaption to being bred as human companion, or possibly co-evolution) and you're their mommy. That's why they're blindly obedient, basically slaves. Wolves have head of their own and follow their pack rules. Blood mixing just reflects that.

Wolfdog's are cruel hybrids created and bought out of selfishness. People want them just because they can say that they are so cool that they have a wolf as a pet. The poor things don't know whether to act like a wolf or a dog, so they can be pretty hard to predict and care for.

I'm just an ignorant idiot that has watched a few videos on Youtube, though. Here is some source so you can see for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuLTIi7CyOk

I wouldn't so far as to say that bud. The reason I know all this about wolves and dogs is that I worked for 2 years as a wolf rehabilitation expert at a sanctuary. I worked with all kinds of canids, including wolf hybrids (and pure wolves). I will agree that a lot of people buy high-content wolf hybrids for the coolness factor, then they can't handle them, and give them to rescues like us if the dogs are lucky. At the same time though. wolves and dogs have been breeding for millennium anyway, and I can assure you that some of them are wonderful animals, and there isn't this internal confusion of whether they are a dog or not. If you know how to work with them, they can be incredibly rewarding companions. Word to the wise though, they are not dogs. A high content is a wolf by definition, and is not meant for someone inexperienced. I'd personally recommend someone who adores wolves to adopt a few huskies and raise them, then get a low content wolfdog before even considering a high-content. Cheers everyone.

It depends on breed.

I'm thinking of huskies when I say this, who are closer to the dog side of things, but for whatever reason it may be, they're mostly very obedient, well behaved dogs.

I might need to learn more about vlcaks though.
