Not gonna lie, loving smash and have since I bought it, but the over abundance of fire emblem/sword characters seems a little ridiculous at this point. Super pumped for bayonetta, but I would have liked to see them try something different with other dlc characters. A staff character, or a whip, or mace, or any other weapon would have been neat to see, seeing as there were already what? Like 8 other sword guys? Maybe 10? Too lazy to try and count them. I know its easier to take the base model and modify it but seeing as this is supposedly the last update/dlc for the game, it would have been nice to see some variety. IDK just my two cents
the characters in smash are why the games became popular in america so nintentard being the company it is putt all its eggs in the same basket thus the fact the characters only have minute differences
We should wait and see, I actually think corrin could be really interesting, has a lot of dragon moves as well as sword moves, and that pinch in place moves looks interesting especially for team fights. Ill be honest I thought similarily about ryu when he first came out "just a standard brawler", though apart from being a powerhouse his gameplan is quite interesting with his focus attack and nair.
Marth and Lucina are the only two swordfighters that are similar, and even then Marth's tipper makes a huge difference. Sure Link and Toon Link have similar movesets, but their properties like weight and height make them very distinguishable from each other.
Why so fast to bash swordfighters when 2/3 of the cast could be defined as a "brawler"? Because they have different styles and projectiles, right? The exact same could be said about swordfighters. You can't do the same recovery mixups with Ike that you would with Link. You can't rely on Fairs to space with Shulk like you would Marth.
Personally I can't stand how so many characters have a counter. It has a lot to do with the frequency that I fight characters with a counter, but it's very frustrating.
Least abundant sure, maybe but 5 of them are from FE and the rest all feel relatively similar. In the other groups at least there is a wide variety of playstyles. Metaknight is pretty much the only sword character who feels unique. Marth, roy and lucina are all incredibly similar. The mii fighter takes moves from link, ike, and others. Cloud and shulk I find pretty similar. Link and toon link while having different attributes are almost identical (and i know there are clones in the other catagories too). But my point is, instead of flooding the cast with FE characters why not try and bring something fresh to the table. Bayonetta is a good example of that, something different, something new. To my eariler point, why not try and bring in someone who uses a staff or utilizes something we havne't seen?
True. Really it would be better if Lucina and Roy where just alternate skins/moves for Marth. Ike, being heavy, plays differently enough that it doesn't feel to similar to other FE characters. I'm not much if a Shulk player and I haven't had the chance to play cloud yet so I don't have much to say about them. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a staff fighter.(even though there are no more DLC characters) like crystal maybe?
I'm a fan of Fire Emblem, but god ******* damnit, did they really have to include Corrin? His/Her game hasn't been around for even half a year yet. At least Ephraim or Hector would've rounded out the weapon's triangle, but they're nowhere near popular enough to get in. Mother ****** took up a space that could've been given to Snake.
also there are 8 mario characters (11 if you count DK, wario and yoshi)
and there are 6 pokemon characters, which is the same number as the FE characters.
Again, among them there is variety that is the key. It would be okay if all the sword characters didn't feel like imitations of eachother. Except for Mario/Dr. mario (which i agree was a stuipd addition) all the mario characters play nothing like eachother. Same goes for pokemon. The problem comes when we have 3 clone characters (marth, lucina, and roy), two more (link and toon link). Then basic copies like cloud and shulk. They all feel very much like eachother. What should make smash fun is the variety, getting to try different things, use different characters and for me at least, getting to see all the very different special moves on screen. Its why I'm looking forward to bayonetta so much.
This is all my opinion, I'm no hardcore smasher, just someone who plays with my friends. But to me, even though there are the least amount of them they feel like one model of sword character was copied 11 times and a few tweaks were made (Except for metaknight)
have you played shulk and cloud? they play very differently from each other. no defense on the pits and links. (granted i play roy and i think he controls differently enough). but besides that corrin does play differently from the others, as the video breakdown shows. yeah he may have a sword swing or to thats similar to marth and lucina, but thats about it.
my mindset is that im grateful we got DLC characters at all. this could have been like brawl or melee where there was no dlc at all. bayonetta and cloud are like the steak dinner, with corrin being the dessert. he may not be wanted, but its the optional cherry on a dlc sundae
It makes more sense if you think roy is more of a melee rep if anything. and roy and marth play nothing similar. similar moves? yes similar playstyle? no. its like saying fox and falco are the same character. Lucina is really just a glorfied skin. Corrin is literally half ******* dragon so thats gonna be interesting. and Robin is a silly little mage. other then that the only problem i see is lucina being a glorified skin.
My thought when I heard about cloud: Yeah THATS what we've been needing for this family fighting game, ANOTHER japanime swordman. Not some cartoony two person character that actually has game history with the some of the other characters. goddamn in still holding out for Banjo & Kazooie
Na, he'll be one of the skins, along with white summon, sun covenant summon, knight of blue summon, invader, Solaire, Alva I think that was his name and the armor set on the cover of Dark Souls 3.
Ah the new smash bros game. All the new characters are either 3rd party or from fire emblem. And the fire emblem characters are just reskins of each other!
Honestly I just hate how all the fire emblem characters are swordsmen (and robin who uses swords and magic) when there are 8 different weapon/magics to use and they only really use swords. There are more main characters than sword users but because all the new game have Generic sword dude has the main character that's what we get.
Lyon was the guy i was thinking of but yeah, there is so much potential for fire emblem characters but they just keep pumping out sword characters with counters for down B. Robin is the the exception that proves the rule because he still uses a sword for his all his non special attacks.
Even then he uses elwind as his rapid a attack.
His style is definitely more interesting then the rehashed marth style
Id have rather had eliwood than marth or roy though, he was always one of my favorite lord characters.
Sothe, even though being theif technically means he uses a sword would have been interesting because he woul have atleast fought differently.
Nolan or any of the other fighters would have been badass heavy hitters
Id even go as far to say they should have considered mounted units, and just have them calling in their mount, similar to how Fox and Falco call in the landmaster, as their final smash. Just to have more variety in the fighting styles. (I personally think counters should be based off of guards, and should be an ability to all characters than a waste of a smash slot.
I just hate on counters because i like ganon, and the return twice the damage **** on a skill that is easy as **** to use and doesn't have that bad of a recovery time. so many times i have broken a little mac's shield then used a turn around warlock fist just for him to recover at the last second and counter
robin is the only fire emblem character I play mainly because everyone I know that mains marth is cringy as **** .
Thats exactly why I think it should be turned into a guard move. Using the block button immediately upon getting attacked should be a counter. If they get the window right it could actually be a hard move to pull off, and missing would result in you taking all that damage back or getting stunned
I agree with you how cheap it is, but like it as a move regardless.
I still think they should of added ephraim and made his final smash myrrh transforming into a dragon, breathing fire then him critting and launching everyone in the flames
They should have added donnel and made his final smash taking the pot of his head and throwing it, everyone watches as it crashes into them and flings them off into their doom
the differences between dark pit and pit are more major than the ones between lucina and marth though, so i guess he wouldnt be. i couldnt tell you **** about final smashes
Who cares about the characters, I'm most impressed by the 8 ******* person smash. The characters are nice of course, I'm just saying that 8 players is insane and looks really fun
I don't have a a wiiu
I have a 3ds, but I would rather buy it on wiiu because I plan to eventually get one.
Now that my girlfriend and I are moving in together I have a bit of an excuse to buy one, so that we can play casual little nintendo games together lol
Don't want to judge too fast here, but I think you are Meleefan, right?
He was talking about 8-player Smash and the newcomers, what do old insttallments have to do with that?
no hes talking about smash. and he talks about it as though its the only smash game.
>Man, Smash is out since last year
pretty hard to see him miss "8 player smash" in that sentence.
Not me, the first guy.
He said that he wants to try 8-Player Smash.
I tell him that the game which features it is out since a year and ask why he has not played it yet.
Then you tell me that Smash Bros as a franchise exists longer than that and that Smash 4 is bad.
Smash is old as hell, them adding new characters isn't a surprise at all. Allowing 8 players instead of 4 isn't a huge thing either. Consoles have been increasing the number of players since they've been around.
Back when Melee was the focus, there was a ton of fake "Next roster!" pictures... and that wasn't as long ago as you'd think. Brawl had the same 'issue', too, with lots of fake images popping up saying what the next listing was going to be...
Kinda curious if any of them were right on the money with the original release of Smash 4... But probably not. Shulk wasn't very popular.
Put the virtual SD card in Dolphin's folder where sd cards go. I think the guide tells you where exactly, but even if not you should be able to figure it out.
Boot up Dolphin. Under the Wii section of configure, check "Insert SD card". Boot brawl. Go to stage builder. Should work.
With characters being DLC in the latest Smash, it's unlikely. Nintendo would try hard to shut it down. I don't think they'd appreciate people making free DLC characters.
Am I the only one who feel like they wanted to make a fire emblem fighting game but decided to just stacked all the important characters into Smash Brothers?
Also... does anyone really care about Bayonetta. It wasn't a great game, just moderately decent. It just had over the top theatrics, story wasn't really good, and Bayonetta was just a 1 dimensional cocktease. I played both, and Bayonetta 2 felt like a expansion DLC.
Fire emblem is apparently very popular in Japan, and Nintendo has a reputation of listeniung to japan more than the rest of the world ( not trying to disagree / agree with their decisions )
Fire Emblem got popular with the crowd so they catered to it. Not really much more to it, except maybe some marketing reasons.
You may not have enjoyed the Bayonetta games, but adding Bayonetta doesn't transform Smash into Bayonetta 3, it'll still stay Smash. And I gotta admit Bayo's moveset looks sick as hell. And in Smash, isn't that all that really matters, instead of our previous experience with the source games? I think I did enjoy Bayo 1+2 a lot more than you, though. Yes i agree they didn't really step up their game by adding new and interesting new elements, but hey, if it ain't broke..
He's already been on a Nintendo game.
He's a anti-hero.
He has had two games that were considered different games.
There can be stages.
The variety of trophies.
They can do a Q*Bert deal is when he swears it's just a giant &%$# over his head.
The only problem I have with Travis is that he is a guy and I feel like there should be a female character to TRY to outweight the balance of male, and female. Which leads to his alternate costumes.
Shinobu, the white afro african american assasin, and for more people. Henry Cooldown, Travis twin irish raised brother.
Bayonetta's one of the better examples of the ************* combo action game sub-genre. It excels because it's very tight and responsive on the controls, mechanically well-wrought, just plain pretty and fun to look at, and instead of playing as grizzled manjaw or handsome bish you play as a flamboyant MILF. It's well executed and just overall a solid game.
I can see where you're coming from, because I too have experienced a fatigue of those kinds of games, but I feel like the Witch Time mechanic set it apart both as a defensive tool that looks awesome and cinematic, but also as a reward system for getting the awesome dodges and crazy combos. Devil May Cry just gave you more gems and **** for doing well and didn't really care if you got hit, while Bayonetta let you finish everybody off (or at least do puns of damage) if you were clearly wrecking their **** , but only let you do so if you were avoiding damage. I feel like that's important.
Asura's Wrath feels like one big Quick Time Event.
Absolutely, that brought something new to the table of the type of games that people thought DMC already perfectly. I am glad that I am not the only person that feel that way about Asura Wrath. It was over the top with that one scene of Asura destroying that humongous ship, which was pretty cool. But I feel that if Asura Wrath was a movie it would be better, as Asura Wrath felt more like a movie than a game.
From A company standpoint, having a bunch of popular characters in your fighting game is the best way to make money on the product, and with a game like Smash, you also want to hype other games that are out, or already released titles. Most people think the reason Cloud got added was because Square wants to hype the F7 Remake. And if he's in Smash, people will do what they do with any other character in the roster they like, look for their original game and see the origins. So no need to be salty for someone making an observation. Also, I noticed you didn't mention Brawl. You disgust me.
>Also, I noticed you didn't mention Brawl. You disgust me.
maybe i didnt feel like mentioning what was the worst of the smashes.
do some research and find out why, ive described why to far too many people.
imbalances, stupid changes.
snake was still fun to **** people over with, and the story mode was interesting to play through. i'm not saying those were the only reasons to buy the game, but rather they were the reasons that made it not a complete pile of ****
face palm* I meant with how there is 2 dlc fire emblem and a abundance of fire emblem characters already in the game I joking refer that maybe they were wanting a fire emblem fighting game. My fault for saying Smash Bros and not being specific but whatever.
Super smashed bros would be even better with 8 players.
