Hmm, I don't think I've ever seen a Tyranid army that's mainly blue. Nice.
Yeeah, I've had a thing of blood Angels and Base-Paints for a while Since around Summer , but I haven't really done anything with them. I don't really know when I'll get around it it
i start off with some generic primer from my local hobby store, light grey color.
then I use an ink I made from a really old paint pot of Ultramarines blue that I thinned down with some slightly glossy medium.
next up I paint the shells or chitin with a base of Kantor Blue. fleshy parts get a base of Xereus purple.
next I drybrush altdorf guard blue over all the kantor blue and drybrush white over the inked areas.
next up i take temple guard blue and highlight all the edges of the armor and all the prominent ridges.
next up i bust out the black and start making all the random markings, i based the look off of blue dart frogs.
bony parts and weapons get a base of talarn sand, then get drybrushed with ushabti bone before a final wash with reikland flesh shade.
purple parts gets a drybrushing first of xereus purple with a little bit of white mixed in then a second drybrushing of Lucius lilac before getting a wash of Druchi violet.
finish of the shells with a nice coat of guilliaman blue for some gloss.
the bases are super simple, some brown static grass and sand i got from my local playground.
initially i used this idea/technique www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fBnN6Yy7uE
but wet blending takes for fucking ever and simply wasnt viable for such a guant heavy army so i fell back on a heavy reliance of drybrushing

fair enough it is def a bummer. thats why i stopped buying GW peripherals except for their paints, cause all their stuff isnt all that good. I just buy those assorted packs you can find in hobby shops with one really good brush that i take care of really well and the rest just last a couple dozen models depending on the brush, naturally i go through drybyshes like water and ive used the same detail brush for like 3 years
Yeah, but there's not really any hobby stores nearby except hobbycraft, and even then all the brushes are really for poster paints and shit... At least with GW I know what I'm buying is right. Any their customer service is really good as the guys there actually know what they're talking about as they enjoy the hobby too - I've received about half a dozen free paint replacements when mine turn to shit with no further questioning.
bummer for your pocket friend, luckily i live in a really artsy community so there is no shortage of hobby shops. I actually wish i kept pictures of em but i did a terminator army once and i made all their bases ice themed using clear fingernail acrylic powder and solvent and you can paint the plastic into place ill have to dig around to try to find those pics they were awesome
