With the upcoming Age of Ultron coming next
year, Ultron' s origins are doomed to be skewed.
Although Ultron first appears in Avengers
54 in 1968, however, the character is , "
disguised for the majority of the issue as I. N.:
the Crimson Cowl, with his face \ _
only revealed on the last page of
the issue and no name given to the
character. The character leads the _ ,
Masters of Evil against the Avengers,
after hypnotising Edwin Jarvis into working
tor him. In the following issue, #55, the
character is identified as , the
living automaton, however his origins
are kept secret throughout the following
issues and are only revealed in flashbacks. In Avengers #57 & #58 in a
flashback sequence it is revealed that Ultron is the creator of the
Vision' whom it tries to use as
a weapon to destroy the Avengers. The
l Vision, similar to the hero Wonder Man,
whose brain patterns he was given however,
destroys Ultron with the aid of the Avengers.
N it Further flashbacks reveal that Ultron is /
s the creation of Henry Pym aka Ant Man, I
and was based on Pym' s brain patterns, thus providing it
with an amazing starting intellect to advance trom.
During Pym' s attempts to create an Ad. he accidentally \_,},\,: g/
created . Ultron gradually developed its (ARV /
own intelligence and rebelled, and almost yia
immediately develops an Oedipus Complex, -
whereby it feels irrational hatred for his creator
and demonstrates an interest in Hank' s lover
Janet van Dyne aka the Wasp who would later be used for the
building of Jocasta by Ultron who would rebel herself against her cre-
ator and tight alongside the Avengers. Ultron advances itself so much
so that it can eventually rebuilding itself, learning how to switch itself
on without external input and in total, upgrading five times. Ultron
would then go on to hypnotize Amman and brainwash him into forget-
ting that the robot
had ever existed, I /

next appearance is in the Avengers #66 to #68,

state. Taking the name Ultimate Ultron, its plans to destroy
humanity are again thwarted by the Avengers.
