Fox thought Star Wars was going to fail, but it looked like it was doing alright on release so Fox offered George Lucas a 300% pay raise, he instead said "Nah ***** I'll keep my pay as it is now but give me the merchandising rights muh ****** ." They were thinking "LOL dis ***** STUP af!" and gave him the merchandising rights instead.

Now George Lucas is worth over 7 billion galactic credits.

Were talking about George Lucas.
It's more likely that he'll try to create Gungans.

WHY THE **** WOULD YOU SELL IT BEFORE THE FILM

I mean even on the 1% chance the movie becomes the next Star Wars and the original is worth millions, it's better than the 0% before the film.

promotion

someone on the comic con buys it because it looks cool or he finds it interesting, then he hangs it in his room and is constantly reminded of it. Then he will definitely check out the movie when it comes out even just out of curiosity. Maybe other people will also enter his room and see the poster and thus remember the name star wars (even subconsciously) and they will visit the movie too.

Question: What's the difference between a nerd and a geek?

This isn't a set up for a joke or anything, I'm genuinely curious

There isn't really one set definition anymore. The words, whatever their original definitions were, have been warped and changed by society, so it's only your subjective perception of the meaning now.

the original movie was not expected to fail. fox spent millions on dollars on the movie. they would have scrapped it before spending everything.

i couldn't find anything about the original movie poster that was hand drawn being sold for 1.75.

anyone have a source? I'm naturally inclined to be skeptical.

Oh man. They thought that the first move would fail because in 1977, no one would do an sci fi space movie. Not even Lukas thought it would sell well. The reason that the movie company invested in it was because Lukas had already spent all his savings in it and they would get almost all the money from the cinematic views. Lukas had pretty much one condition, he would gain all the rights and all the money from next films and brands. Since the movie company was sure that this was going to fail, they accepted his condition. This is now know as the worst contract in the modern world.

It seems I was wrong, however I'm still looking for a source on the 1.75 poster thing.

It was expected to fail. Hell, Fox threatened to cancel the project a few times.
