To be fair the first one is kinda "meh". It doesn't really say whether or not he used one hand to catch and or destroy the apple.

Also, while it may be hard to crush one of those large, plump red apples from the grocery store, non-selectively bred apples tend to be small enough for you to almost make a fist around them. I have a few trees that produce apples this small in my backyard, and they are not difficult to crush in one hand.

also, maybe it was one of the softer apples, and maybe it was a bit ripe, and maybe he didn't really crush so much as compress it a bit
