Aren't you just as much a part of the problem for assuming you can diagnose their lack of OCD from here?
#227 to #188 - anon (11/17/2015) [-]
The only problem is people who can't accept that the world doesn't revolve around them and their personal problems. If the sweater said "schizophrenia is funny lol" then maybe there'd be something to talk about. If OCD is the worst of your problems, consider yourself lucky. Throwing an almight god damn hissy fit about how offended you are by the smallest of things, in this case a christmas sweater, is just sad.

And, yes, I know what I'm talking about, antipsychotics aren't doled out for sore throats and boo-boos.
#232 to #227 - justtocomment (11/18/2015) [-]
Because your incessant need to pass judgement and decide who is afflicted by what is any better? The SJW screeches "we're special! stop oppressing us!" so you shriek back "no you aren't, I know exactly what I'm talking about! stop disagreeing with me!" Both groups dole out broad judgement on either side. They say all men are evil and you say anyone with dyed hair is immediately lying about having a mental condition.
For all you know, the person in this picture actually does have OCD. How the **** would you know whether or not they have to turn every light in the house on and off 13 times a day? What special power do you have to say "there's no way she scrubs her feet until they bleed"?
And who. The **** . Are you. To say that OCD is "the least of your problems"? It's a crippling affliction you twat-knuckle. How dare you sit there and discard it as a minor irritant by comparing it to schizophrenia. As if both diseases aren't just as capable of alienating you from friends and family, or capable of costing you a job.
You people see a person say "I've got voices in my head" and your gut reflex is "shut the **** up you're not a special snowflake stop making up ******** about yourself". You are literally just as disparaging and ass-backward as the SJWs you're mocking.
Give me your red thumbs, you stupid ******* hypocrites. At least I know I never judged a mental condition from someone's appearance. At least I know that when I go pick up my prescription, it'll justify my ******* existence to a bunch of online twits who are willing to hate anything including groups who hate anything.

I agree with your sentiments, but OCD can be a crippling menta disorder. It can lead to as much dysfunction as schizophrenia. I wouldn't call anyone with OCD lucky.

You assholes ******** on everyone with problems are no different than the ones who make angry blogs about it for attention. The moment someone has a problem with being marginalized you all show up like the world has to revolve around you and your opinions. They can't have theirs, but you HAVE to have yours and it has to drown them out and make them go back into quiet obscurity so you can feel secure about yourselves.

**** the SJWs, but **** you guys too.

It's a woman, first of all. Second of all, who the **** are you to judge her on whether or not she has OCD JUST by the way she looks? Why does it even matter if she has it or not? We have a pretty girl there trying to stick up for people with OCD, and people get all pissed off and start throwing insults. I don't get why people get all dickish when someone speaks out against something obviously offensive. This woman is only trying to make it so that people can go around and not see something offensive that angers them.

Everytime some dumb whore at my job says I have "multiple personality disorder" I want to cave their skull in with a blunt instrument.

I've seen people with multiple personality disorder. They're dangerous people. Unpredictable, erratic, and capable of flipping out instantaneously and at random.

I spent 10 days in 51/50. The illogical side of their brain admits what they did was wrong but the other half doesn't care. They're physically incapable of showing empathy of any kind.

Its borderline sociopathic.
User avatar #37 to #21 - jalauren (11/17/2015) [-]

I know
I especially hate it because my family accuses me of having it I can see their reasoning, I don't really interact with them and when I do, I do tend to come off as lacking any human emotion and empathy
I really hate it because I seriously do care about a lot, especially people. The problem with my family is that they've done **** that makes me hate them and has caused me to cut all ties and semblance of personality of myself to them.

Uh, not sure which MPD people you've seen but that sounds like they had a combo platter of mental disorders

MPD just meas you have two split personalities and generally aren't aware of what the other personality does, often as a coping mechanism for a defense mechanism

Here's a list of diagnostic criteria from the DSM 5

1. Two or more distinct identities or personality states are present, each with its own relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to and thinking about the environment and self.

2. Amnesia must occur, defined as gaps in the recall of everyday events, important personal information and/or traumatic events. (Dissociative Amnesia: Deeply Buried Memories) This criteria for DID newly recognizes that amnesia doesn't just occur for traumatic events but, rather, everyday events, too.

3. The person must be distressed by the disorder or have trouble functioning in one or more major life areas because of the disorder.

4. The disturbance is not part of normal cultural or religious practices.

5. The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (such as blackouts or chaotic behavior during alcohol intoxication) or a general medical condition (such as complex partial seizures).

Other diagnostic criteria includes but is not limited to:

Personalities are discrepant (disagreeing) and often opposite.
Each personality is well-ingrained with its own memories, behavioral patterns and social relationships that govern its behavior.
Transition from one personality to another is often sudden and brought on by stress.
Amnesia or blackouts (in the absence of substance use)
The person referring to him or herself as "we"
The person being told that they did certain things to don't recall. The person may find unfamiliar objects or samples of strange handwriting.
Sleepwalking and automatic writing (such as those in fugue states)
Auditory hallucinations
Phobias; fear, often undifferentiated
Difficulty in parenting and responding to own children
Problems trusting others
Hostility and anger
A sense of betrayal
Problems with sexual adjustment
Increased levels of sexual behavior
Prostitution
Substance abuse

My wife has worked with people with OCD, and it can be severely debilitating.

Some clients can't even speak because they're too busy twitching or moving their hands a certain way or tapping their seat 500 times, etc.

OCD is often self diagnosed and fashionable (ironically). But actual, clinical cases of OCD can be absolutely disabling and can cause a person not to be able to leave their house without assistance.

OCD can range some a series of minor compulsions, to detrimental ones. It is possible for someone with minor OCD to live somewhat of a normal life, just doing 1 or 2 compulsions.

She may have OCD, it could be as simple as needing to walk through her bedroom door frame 5 times before bed and then needing to brush their hair on both sides 20 times each.

"OCD is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions)"

While I do think this particular Tumblr chick is talking out of her ass and self diagnosed herself, I just wanted to point out that the disorder isn't always as severe as people think it is.

On one hand, OCD is a serious disorder, and we do minimalism it a lot with things like this. On the other hand, it's really likely she self-diagnosed and is contributing to the problem.
User avatar #66 to #39 - datassman (11/17/2015) [-]
I know many users on this site kinda have a preconception about people with dyed hair, but there really isn't a "look" for people with mental disorders, so I really don't think it's helpful to judge
#67 to #66 - lolibear (11/17/2015) [-]
it's not that I don't think that people with mental disorders can look like that, it's just that the amount of people who look like that and get upset about that thing, are more likely to self-diagnose themselves with OCD than any random person is to actually have OCD.

That said, if you are refuting that claim itself, that's fine. I don't have any evidence, and it's a clearly biased, speculatory view. I still think it's probably true though.
User avatar #69 to #67 - datassman (11/17/2015) [-]
Eh, I'd say even odds, because the dyed hair crowd actually has pretty even distribution. There's the people that actually are in certain categories (mental illness, disability, w/e) who started out just asking that the things they have to deal with every day not be made fun of, and the people that self-diagnose and then miss the fundamental point of the first group and just get angry about everything. source: have had a tumblr for like 4 years, was pretty far down the left end of the rabbit hole for a little while .

Whichever group she falls into, she's got a good point, the sweater's a little tasteless.

Department stores are one of the worst places to go for people with real OCD. This woman is one of those that thinks she is cool and different for pretending to be OCD.

just because the shirt uses the same acronym for it's design as you use for your disease doesn't mean it's something to bitch about. Probably the same type of person who calls addiction a disease.

As a woman with moderate OCD that plagues my thoughts and comfort all day ( I have legit obsessive compulsive behavior, I don't just "like things clean") I find this sweater both adorable and a great way for me to laugh it off. Get over it you over privileged silver haired dick.

Well as a women with more OCD and more older, I am more qualified than you. I say it's very offensive

As someone who has such severe ocd that I have to take medication for it. The shirt doesn't bother me. Its making a pun on the letters, not making fun of actual ocd.

OCD isn't just about symmetry and stuff like I see people commenting. Thats actually OCPD

OCD is a horrible mental disorder that comes with compulsions but also intrusive thoughts such as images of violence or sexual imagery. They can be so vivid that sufferers can believe to a point hat they've done the actual actions.

With thoughts like violence it makes it hard for people to even leave the house as they feel they may hurt someone just for having thoughts. Doubt she has it.
