They use it as a replacement for stereo type, but its more of a unit. Just as there are millimeters and liters, there are memes spread through a culture, each representing and idea or style spreading form person to person.

What he is refering to belongs to the subset of generalized concepts of the human psyche. Greed is a meme to a certain extent, true enough, but in the way he describes it, raiden is a counterexample to his world view. A world view that doesn't survive a counter example.
