>be Floridian driving to a friends house late one night
>turn a corner to see what i think is a black bear
>they are pretty rare but not totally uncommon so we drive closer to try and get a better look
>when we get a lot closer it turns and we can see it
>It's a large black wolf
>this thing is the size of a bear and couldn't have been a dog
>fear consumes every inch of you when you see something like that
>ever since then we've been afraid to go through that area late at night

on a related note i just decided to google it for a picture and it turns out the Florida Black Wolf has been extinct for over a hundred years apparently. I think this might be a rare animal and maybe someone of importance should take an interest in this. Any idea who i should contact?

"rare" "not totally uncommon" learn the meaning of uncommon m9

Tame it. You would have the ultimate rare pet.

I'm not sure, but have you tried consulting the Endangered And Nongame Species Program? www.njfishandwildlife.com/ensphome.htm

Why would you not be afraid of a bear, but afraid of the wolf? Only time a lone wolf attacks is if it's starving or feel threatened. Bears are a lot more scary imo
User avatar #43 to #41 - incoming (04/21/2015) [-]
Well, a bear may decide to leave you alone if you play dead a wolf on the other hand probably won't. If you plan to fight back though your odds which are still stacked against you seeing as they hunt for a living but you probably don't have to fight for your survival regularly are definitely better with the wolf.

Bear > wolf
Bear sized wolf > Bear
User avatar #65 to #46 - zetsuboukamina (04/21/2015) [-]
I dunno man. A bear has longer and sharper claws as well as being able to stand on two feet. They are also very fast
#81 to #65 - anon (04/21/2015) [-]
Fast, yes, but wolves are way faster when it comes to straight sprinting. Even more so with a hypothetical giant wolf.
But yeah, bears do have the height advantage with the standing. Who knows how that would factor in, though.
User avatar #68 to #43 - wrpen (04/21/2015) [-]
All animals (except scavengers, but they're usually easy to fight off) will generally ignore you if they aren't starving to death and you aren't presenting to be a threat. It just helps that the easiest way to do that is lie completely motionless on the ground, on the exact opposite side of the animal as anything it doesn't want you to come near.
User avatar #79 to #68 - incoming (04/21/2015) [-]
Good point, I've just heard about the motionless defense against bears but I'd never heard of it being used for wolves.

That is a black German Shepherd. It's just longer haired, called "plush coated". The eyes are edited, in the original version they're normal brown. This is a black wolf - big difference.

Too bad Wolves don't attack humans. Never been a recorded incident in history. Read the book "Vicious".

Thats not true Liam Neeson was on a plane once and it went down and the people that didn't die in the crash were killed by wolves. For reference the movie is "Taken 2: There are ******* Wolves Eating People"
