if you don't primarily feel sorry for olly, then you have a realy underdeveloped sympathy gland.
if he was a character we had followed for a time, and seen his family dead by wildlings, and then this asshole commander constantly dismisses him, and wants to bring more of the murderers south of the wall, because it's of some threat you have never seen, and still doubt is real, then, as viewers, you would cheer for the death of Jon Snow.
Just because we have seen Jon's perspective doesn't mean he is right, only that he had reasons for doing **** they way he did. that's what makes the series good: moral ambiguity, and "good" and "evil" being fairly indistinguishable.
Instead you go: "hurf dur, fugg u ollli" honestly tho, the watch's lack of pragmatism is really stupid. Many enough have seen the spooks for it to be a real, and bigger threat than the wildlings. most of them haven't fought the wildlings for decades or some **** to make them hate them on principle. "only" because they lost their watchbrothers.
its not pragmatic to stop the wildings from coming south. they know nothing of the threat.they have historical records of wildings killing, raping and looting everything they can get their hands on. and their entire job describtion is to make sure NOBODY gets south of the wall.
No, their primary job description is to, and I quote "Guard the realms of men"
The wildings are men, whether you like it or not. The white walkers are not. They are monsters. The Watch has traditionally fought the wildlings because they were the biggest threat to stability in westoros, ever though they were human, if they had invaded they would have caused massive catastrophe. But now, they need every soldier they can to fight the real enemy of man; an enemy which could destroy humanity as a species.
you need to remember the context of the era and who said the quote. and the "real enemy" of the man is a childrens story not seen in ages that only few guardsmen has claimed to seen lately. and as i recall one of them isnt exactly a crowd favourite amongst the guard.
and the point still stand. you used the term pragmatic wrong
They are savages, and they are men. They exist in a realm, and they are men. And everyone should believe in the white walkers once one attacked their ******* lord commander, and after a significant number of them were killed by them at Hardhome.
except they dont exist within the realm. a realm is a territory ruled over by a sovereign. they are not under the banner of the king that governs the realm aka not part of the realm. and wildlings are obviously considered less than humans in the show
and yeah i just noticed you are just a random who jumped in on this.
Well i mean yeah you can hate them theyre all retarded. They now know how unstoppable the white walkers are and they know that for everyone they kill they gain another soldier. By leaving the wildlings out to die you are 1 letting the white walkers army vastly expand and 2 keeping your army tiny in number. Anybody who doesnt want to be torn apart by the undead and isnt half retarded should be able to do the math and see that helping the wildlings is a necessary "evil"

Although I agree with your post I still hate Olly for what he did.
He's a well-written character - being a young boy and seeing your parents murdered by Wildlings can't be easy to deal with, so obviously when Jon brings in the same people to protect them, Olly's not going to like it. He's still immature, which although is a trait hate in characters, makes sense for his age.
I have the same trouble with Daenerys - although she looks to be in her mid-twenties in the show, she keeps pulling these decisions which are really ******* stupid - all the more annoying because she's in a high position of power and what she says goes. She acts like a spoiled child which is why I don't like any of her scenes.
