Decided I would make a comp after a couple of people showed interest in one being made.
This one is gonna be focusing on the "Big names", one's everyone is familiar with.
So let's get started!

First up is the US Army Special Forces, more commonly known as the Green Berets.
Formed during the Cold War, the Green Berets are considered one of the best fighting forces in the world. Cutting their teeth in Vietnam, they quickly gained infamy amongst the Viet Cong, employing the guerilla techniques the VC used against them.
The Green Berets serve an unusual purpose for a special operations force. A squad of around 8 or 10 would be sent into an area, where they would work with the locals to create ties, offering aid and helping organize and lead militias. This lead to them earning the nickname of "soldier diplomats".
The Green Berets are also well versed in combat, having proved themselves in the US invasion of Panama, the first Gulf War, and recently in Operation Enduring Freedom.

More commonly referred to as “Delta Force” by the public, Army Compartmented Elements (or ACE for short) is one of three “Tier One” forces in the world, the other two being the US Navy's DEVGRU (SEAL Team Six) and the Canadian JTF-2.
Based both in structure and function on the British SAS, they partake in various types of operations; ranging from direct action to hostage rescue. Probably the most famous operation Delta Force took part in was Operation Gothic Serpent, featured in the movie Black Hawk Down.
More recently, Delta Force killed Abu Sayyaf and captured his wife, both the financial leaders of ISIS and known human traffickers.
ACE is well known for working alongside other special forces, including their “father” unit the SAS, and “brother” units JTF-2 & DEVGRU.

The US Naval Special Warfare Development Group, formerly known as SEAL Team 6, is the other half of the US Tier One capable operations force. Developed as full time counter-terrorist force in the 1980's, they were made to round out the capabilities of the US Special Forces.
While Delta Force tends to focus on conventional methods of insertion such as helicopters, DEVGRU seems to like picking unusual methods of entry, like scuba diving and HALO jumps.
For the raid on Osama bin Laden, they decided to just go with helicopters. This operation made DEVGRU known around the world, though it is likely that the team was made up of ACE & DEVGRU operators, with support from Intelligence Support Activity (ISA) & 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. (known as the Nightstalkers)

The term Ranger comes from “Rogers Rangers”, a UK Army infantry unit from the French and Indian War, however the Rangers we know of today were formed during WWII.
The US Army Rangers became famous in the European theatre of WWII, where they were instrumental in the Battle of Normandy and the liberation of France. The Rangers have since modernized, using helicopters to be inserted into the action.
Though more a "elite light infantry" than a special force, the Ranger are nonetheless bad news, having proved themselves in the first Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as fighting alongside Delta Force during Operation Gothic Serpent.

The US Marine Corps Special Forces were largely unused for the majority they have been in service, despite the fact that they are easily on par with the Army Rangers and the Navy SEALs. This is because they were not part of Special Operations Command (SOCOM), the unified special operations branch of the US Armed Forces. However, in 2006, MARSOC was created, and allowed Marines to finally participate in special operations.
The Marine Special Operations Regiment, named the “Raiders” after the famous WWII Marine unit, have proven themselves as an extremely effective fighting force, working alongside the Rangers, Green Berets and Navy SEALs during Operation Enduring Freedom.

And finally, the British SAS. (Don't worry, I'll try and focus on more foreign special forces in the future)
The British SAS are considered the grandaddy for all modern day special forces. Every special operation force carries at least some of traits over from them, including ACE, DEVGRU and the CAnadian JTF-2.
Originally formed as a unit made to perform raids in Northern Africa, they came to public attention during the Iranian Embassy siege, rescuing all but one of the hostages. They have had similar success in conflicts since, such as the Gulf and Kosovo War, as well as Operation Enduring Freedom.
The SAS are considered a world class force, similar to ACE & DEVGRU, who they often fight alongside.
Alright, that's it for this comp, let me know if you guys want to see more!
