but the jokes isn't funny because the point of saying "it's 2015" is to refer to the present as being "modern", new and good, and to say someone is acting in a primitive way.

but the joke doesn't work so well because the point of saying "it's 2015" is about tlking how we're in the "modern" present. A way to say "we're living in the future and you continue with your primitive behavior" so the only change that guy would have to make is say "it's 2016".

You mean covering huge issues in America and how we should solve them instead of spreading hate and limiting freedom? Sounds like he's doing the right thing and you're just being left behind with your backwards ideals.
Downvote me all you want but it's clear where the world is going, and it's clear you're living in the past.
User avatar #48 to #45 - umbrage (12/15/2015) [-]
Covering huge issues and creating discussion is good. Dismissing huge issues with rhetoric and limiting discussion to "IT'S THE CURRENT YEAR" is trash.
User avatar #49 to #48 - ericzxvc (12/15/2015) [-]
He does a comedy show that covers these issues, it's going to involve rhetoric. What is an example of him saying "It's the current year" that limited discussion to a topic? The reality is that most of the things he covers are topics that are so ass-backwards you really do have to step back and say "how is this going on in the year 2015"?
This site is filled with closeted neckbeards who hate the world because they have no life and have no idea what life is like outside the Internet, so they attack everything that goes outside their close-minded ideals.
But the reality is that most of the people here are unintelligent bigots in a circlejerk about how much better men are and how ****** everyone other than white people are, literally proving the points they vehemently try to deny.
FJ hates feminism, do we need it? Definitely if this is how people act about women, they don't realize that they are literally creating the need for something that they hate. If people like them were were respectful and not sexist these issues would not exist
Donald Trump is an idiot with ridiculous ideas that border on insanity and has no chance of becoming President, people who don't realize that are stupid.
Most people on this site who act like this are designated lives filled with hate and disappointment since with these beliefs there is no room for them in the developed world.
John Oliver is a progressive who talks about issues that will be solved in the future, like slavery, like gay marriage, like women's rights, all these social issues that have come and had resistance but ultimately the people on the other side were wrong. Just like this, fight it all you want but progress is coming, and you are on the wrong side.

From the type of content that gets front page on this site every day it's obvious that this site is dominated by conservatives. Probably a great deal gravitated to FJ with the rise of the feminist media.

I'm pretty left wing, but I still enjoy lurking to see the political arguments in the comments and get a kick out of all the angry people shouting against a wall on both sides.
User avatar #72 to #49 - voltkills (12/15/2015) [-]
>so they attack everything that goes outside their close-minded ideals
and how exactly, are you ANY different, simply dismissing many points of view as "on the wrong side" and "living in the past"
User avatar #74 to #72 - ericzxvc (12/15/2015) [-]
Because the people I argue with are typically the ones calling all black people " ******* " talking about how much they hate women, and telling me to drink bleach. It's really not hard to see who's on the wrong side when one side is hateful and has no compassion or respect for their fellow man.
This combined with the fact that most of their ideas and things they spout are limiting progression and freedom of other people which is very clearly the wrong side. When the entire developed world has one opinion, and you are so edgy and hateful and see the opposite, you're probably wrong.
As well as the fact that I am very staunch in my opinions and will tell anyone them, I want to see one of these people go up to their mother or a girl they like and tell them women aren't as good as men. They won't, because they know it's wrong and just like going on FJ to interact with the same kinds of garbage that they are.
User avatar #75 to #74 - voltkills (12/15/2015) [-]
so basically what you do is totally ignore any and all points that could be valid because some people are bad, therefore judging a whole group on the actions of a few... i dunno man, that doesnt sound very progressive to me.
#76 to #75 - anon (12/15/2015) [-]
Straw man argument. Thats not what was said. You should read it again. I miss when this site was more about the funny and less about the politico comments.
User avatar #79 to #76 - voltkills (12/15/2015) [-]
look im not going to bother trying to sit down and have a properer argument with someone who seems to be so set in their views that happen to be very opposed to mine, theres simply no point, it will achieve nothing.
also yes thats exactly what he said. "the people i argue with are typically the ones calling all black people " ******* " ect...." and then says that everyone who is against his progressive stuff is with them and hateful, on the wrong side ect, which is a load of **** .
User avatar #80 to #75 - ericzxvc (12/15/2015) [-]
You asked why I was different and I showed you why. I don't know what I could make clearer to you.
I'm judging the group based on 100% of the interaction I see with them, as you are defending them I assume you are of the same mindset as you have not said anything mentioning that you are not of that mindset.
User avatar #81 to #80 - voltkills (12/15/2015) [-]
well 100% of the interaction ive had with muslims has been bad
but i guess im racist or some **** for not liking them, right? for the record, this is not the case, nor my view.
you're no different, you're exactly the same, the judge a whole group based on the actions of a few.
and im not defining the bigots and hate filled idiots, they are cunts, im just saying the way you approach this is the same way they do, you make no effort to listen, or think, you dismiss everything that isnt your incredibly narrow view. Im placed firmly on the right wing of politics, so im guessing you would instantly lump me with racists and homophones ect.. instantly without a second thought, just becuase I dont agree with you.. oh wait you already did.
User avatar #130 to #81 - ericzxvc (12/15/2015) [-]
You were the one who swooped in and came to these people's defence, if you were not one of them why put yourself in that place? I never called you one, it was you who put yourself in that position.
And please you cannot bring in the argument that I'm being intolerant of intolerance. That's not how it works. If you are a bigot you have no opinion, you are just hateful. There is no "discussion" to be had, there is simply your close-mindedness and judgement clouded by prejudice.
I do not lump you in with all the racists and homophobes, I don't think the entire right wing is some one-minded hate machine. But on this site there are racists and homophobes, and I was talking about them, you decided to put yourself on the opposite side and defend them. I didn't call you one and I don't understand how you fail to see the only relationship that has been created between you and them is one you decided, not me.
User avatar #136 to #130 - voltkills (12/15/2015) [-]

Sure, but actions are rarely ever taken to improve conditions for women in other countries by modern day feminists.

Often times, they'll mention it in an appeal to emotion to somehow prove how the lives of women in the first world are worse because women in third world countries are having an awful time, but at the end of the day the most the overwhelming majority do at best is complain about it instead of taking any action, and at worst simply use it to push whatever agenda they have.

There's also so many forms of feminism that not even everyone who identifies as a feminist agrees with what the hell they want.

LOL if you honestly think Donald Trump has any chance of becoming President you are literally a moron. Come back and reply to this comment after the election I guarantee you it will not be Donald Trump being sworn into office.
You really have no idea how politics work do you? 80% of the Republican voter base has not even started paying attention yet, his results are not even indicative of him winning the Republican nomination. In fact the party might even do everything they can to prevent him winning it because they know he won't be able to win the election, and when that happens Trump will break his promise and run as an Independent, split the vote and easy win for Dems.
But enjoy your dreams while they last, Trump won't get an opportunity to ruin America.
User avatar #53 to #51 - sketchE (12/15/2015) [-]
if i were to name any party id actually say im a libertarian but good try. and your right, most voters on both sides really arent paying attention, i mean hillary clinton is the biggest train wreck of a candidate and is still miles ahead of sanders who is almost a good idea.

trump is following the original definition of trolling before it basicly meant making a joke.
"banning people from entering this country is unamerican" tell carter that. tell FDR that. everytime this nation has gone to war with a specific group of people immigration from that country or group has stopped. he claimed 97 percent of black deaths are caused by blacks and cnn corrected him to 90%. that doesnt exactly dissprove his point now does it? he wants to limit outsourcing. not a bad idea honestly while it does increase foreign relations slightly it does hurt our economy since unskilled labor is not available to the people without skills. he wants to reform immigration and prevent illegal immigration. again not a bad idea. illegal immigration does bring crime over since drugs and weapons (the kind that cant be bought by law abiding citizens) are smuggled over. add in overflow from cartel issues and saying illegals and crime are not related in any way shape or form is ludicrous.

heres my thing, i have no intention of voting for any of the named candidates. im a strong believer that the "lesser of two evils" argument is whats hurting this nation more than anything. think about how this site sees, oh lets say, fox news. fox doesnt like trump. i havent watched them recently but last time i did they were doing everything they could to cover up their attacks on him. so people with a slight left lean hear fox news doesnt like him so they support him. think about how people leaning right see CNN. CNN has spent literally two weeks bashing on him.

what hes doing is using this nations distrust of the media to help him. they arent disproving his points, they arent providing good alternatives. all they are doing is proving what he has been since he began running. a loud racist asshole who has a plan. it might not be a good plan but he has a plan. he cant be bought because hes already a billionaire. hes saying what he wants to say because if he loses who cares hes still a ******* billionaire. and hes saying what a lot of americans are thinking. no one will say it no one will act on it because we know its wrong. but if there ever was a devil on every americans shoulder it looks exactly like donald trump

User avatar #142 to #78 - sketchE (12/16/2015) [-]
politics in general is a farce. hell life in the civilized world is a farce. we prance around living lives a million times better than a lot of people and complain about freedom of movement or if the government is spending millions of dollars to watch us masturbate. try and live in peace but t=kick the teeth in of those who dont want to. thats my way of viewing things
User avatar #115 to #53 - desmondxburton ONLINE (12/15/2015) [-]
But he doesn't even have any real plans for the most part. Most of the time he just picks an issue most of which that the other Republican candidates also have a somewhat similar stances on , shouts out something crazy and when someone asks how he'd get the plan to work he just gives out vague statements that don't explain much.

User avatar #141 to #115 - sketchE (12/16/2015) [-]
well in regards to isis hes proposed total war. in regards to mexico hes proposed build a wall. in regards to economy he wants to cut back outsourcing
User avatar #143 to #141 - desmondxburton ONLINE (12/16/2015) [-]
Those aren't real plans and still ideas really:

Total war on isis: What is he going to do to avoid the same mistakes/failings that Bush and Obama dealt with in their dealings with war in the Middle East? This one isn't just Trump, as none of the other candidates have really answered this besides saying how many Troops/resources they would have on the "ground".

** Build a wall: ** 1.That he wants Mexico to completely fund while Mexico has no real reason to do so in the first place, and if they did they would most likely end up borrowing the money from the U.S to make it.
2. Such a wall would be one of the largest structures in the world, and would require a very large amount of resources besides just money. At least most of the candidates have more realistic ideas than "build a giant wall and deport all illegals which is an impossible task in part due to the extremely large number of them"

Cut back outsourcing: How do we force companies to stop outsourcing without hurting American consumers? Just raising tariffs can only have so much of an affect on many of the large companies who do outsource. As many of them are such big brand names that unfortunately many people will still buy their products even at a greatly increased price. I think he might have some economy plan somewhere but don't know what is in it.

My hate isn't just pointed at Trump as I have been disappointed all the candidates this election. But the way Trump acts and behaves most of the time may be great for T.V. and ratings, but it isn't what should be accepted in someone who wants to be the leader of our country.
User avatar #144 to #143 - sketchE (12/16/2015) [-]
well when i refer to total war i mean like WWII where you werent fighting just the soldiers you were fighting the homefront of the enemy. isis is a group we can actually fight a conventional war with much like the begining of the iraq war and desert storm. the issue in iraq was that it stopped being a conventional war and obama did everything to avoid actually doing anything in the middle east more than airstrikes
User avatar #145 to #144 - desmondxburton ONLINE (12/16/2015) [-]
And the war on isis won't stay conventional for that long after we go in either. That is one of the reason isis wants the U.S. and others to come all in like Iraq, so they can make another long drawn-out guerrilla warfare type war on foreign soil which, throughout history, has always been extremely difficult for the "visiting" team. Obama's plan was to try to pull the ground troops out of a long drawn out war with no real ending in sight and just try to contain the madness that is the Middle East. We now know how bad that plan and others similar they tried had failed, but the majority of the U.S. were tired of the war and wanted out which is the main reason they tried to pull out. This war will probably be as drawn out as that one but the american people will most likely tire of this one sooner than Iraq unless another 9/11 scale attack happens here really hope it doesn't come to that . Citizen support of the war is extremely important in wars like these, you lose it and it becomes another Vietnam or Iraq which the public really pushing against the war effort.

>"They had their chance. I told them over and over. Why didn't they listen? I mean, come on!" he asks the gun.
>The clock strikes midnight
>John squints through his glasses and over his nose at the crowd cheering below
>No - he can't look. He knows what's coming
>He curls into a ball and plugs his ears, but it's not enough
>An eerie silence sweeps through the crowd, as the Four Klansman appear on the horizon
>The leader removes his hood with a flourish, revealing society's worst fear
>A straight, white, cis, able-bodied, neurotypical male -
>Ben "The Walking Holocaust" Garrison
>Amid the growing murmurs of the crowd, Zyklon Ben takes a deep breath, cups his hands around his mouth, and bellows a single word.
>" ******* "
>The slur hands in the air ringing in the ears of the shocked masses.
>A lone female voice cries out: "Hey! You can't say that sort of thing! Don't you know it's 2015?"
>A smirk creeps across Ben's face. "Not anymore," he intones
>"Not anymore." whispers John Oliver, as he places the barrel in his mouth

You're welcome

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: FIFA II (HBO)
Apart from a few topics he goes over (like feminism and that immigration thing), he's not bad.
Also, he's a comedian whether you think he's funny or not, that's what he is. I think he's... okay that relays news, not a politician. He caters to his audience, mostly liberals (apparently my camp; pic related) and progressives, and says stuff like "It's 2015!" because it's easy he might think that other ways of thinking are outdated, which may be factually wrong, but again: It's easy , not because he thinks it's an actual argument.

Video related: It's his bit on mandatory minimums.

He's no better or worse than Colbert or Jon Stewart

That just says one thing to me.
he does what he's told. nothing more. The opinions you hear from him aren't always his own. Or he is horribly misled. But I tend to think of the former.

Nope, sorry. I can't take someone who doesn't appreciate fresh ethics in gaming journalism seriously. **** him and all social justice waluigis. Their storm is coming. They'll see what happens when they slander and steal my video games.

"I will even drink a Bud Light Lime"

That was great. He's not the best with political opinions but he can deliver a joke.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Mandatory Minimums (HBO) That's one of the FIFA ones. Here's the one about mandatory minimums.

"Because it's easy, not because that's an actual argument" yeah that about sums up Oliver's intellectual honesty.

He's a comedian, and shouldn't be a primary news source.
