I hate to sound grumpy, but this just doesn't make sense. An alien species could benefit most from friendship and trade, working together rather than attacking for no reason. If this movie doesn't include some sort of plot regarding the aliens' motivations, it won't be worth the watch for me.

I get the impression you didn't watch or didnt pay attention to the first one. Although your reasoning is sound, this is a race of sociopathic locusts, space nomads who bounce from planet to planet, stripping the resources ( which become free once the natives are wiped out) and then moving on.
