look at the base of the word poly usually means more than one or many mono is one a poly relationship is with two or more people where a monogamist relationship is with one other person, also used when talking about religious views Greeks have many gods so it's a polytheistic religion where Christianity has one so it's monotheistic.

At your service

"Polygamy (from Late Greek πολυγαμία, polygamia, "state of marriage to many spouses" or "frequent marriage")[1][2][3][4] is a marriage that includes more than two partners.[5] When a man is married to more than one wife at a time, the relationship is called polygyny; and when a woman is married to more than one husband at a time, it is called polyandry"

the two that were coming to live with me.
one lied to me and cheated on me, then left me, then left the girl they went two, and tried to string us both on.
the other told me she was lying the entire time, didn't love me, and did it simply because it was 'fun to see me love so hard'

polygamy is illegal in most western countries, because marriage contracts are defined as between two people. Non conventional relationships are not polygamy.

Polyamory is often used, although i think that's an incorrect term too.

There are a few religions in the west that allow it. As long as everybody in the relationship understands whats happening there is no law against it in the USA. Also, "marriage" is not defined by one religion. You can have as many wives or husbands as you want. The only thing you can't do in some places is gay marriage because there are still people who think its right to force there will on somebody else because it "disgust" them.

Polygamy isn't allowed in the US.
All 50 states have statutes against bigamy (multiple licensed marriages). In most states, bigamy is a felony.
