Skyrim was an overhyped piece of **** anyway that doesn't deserve the "Elder Scrolls" name, and the only people that still praise the game heavily are pathetic bandwagon fans who still think it's popular, even after two years and five months of release. Including "Gamer girls" who think they're super nerdy and cool just because they've played this pile of garbage for more than ten minutes.

Look, I don't want to piss everyone off but this is my genuine opinion. Skyrim is the worst game in the series, the quests were generic and boring, the story-line had no depth and just felt flat, the Oblivion story-line was so much better so when I played Skyrim I felt as if it was a step back, honestly the 'dungeons' are just corridors, go in one way and then magically re-appear at the entrance via a hidden door is not good level design it's casualising the whole system, When people go on about how the graphics in Skyrim are so much better they aren't, they are the exact same size as Oblivions 512x512 (texture size). Inb4 mods make it better, you have to play it with mods. Why? Why should you have to play it with mods? Surely if a game is that good you don't need mods to play it.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that when people praise Skyrim as if it's the next baby Jesus it annoys me.

I did actually play the game and the gameplay was solid but that's about it

I agree with you on that, Mass Effect 1 was excellent but from there it went downhill. Mass Effect 2 they removed the majority of the RPG elements and replaced it with a casual combat system and then 3 is just... I'm not sure what words I could use to describe Mass Effect 3 other than Mass Effects Red Wedding

The gameplay being solid was enough for me because when skyrim came out and the years that followed, I was very much in the "get super stoned and play elder scrolls" demographic that has existed through the different installments of the game.

Your opinion isn't that unpopular, I also agree that Oblivion was way better in every aspect (imho), especially in the storyline department. Alduin was a big dissapointment, whereas the final bossfight in Oblivion was just so god damn epic heck you don't see the avatar of Akatosh biting Mehrunes Dagon in the neck every day . I also second everything else you said, the quests are mostly boring with a few exceptions (such as the sheogorath quest, the one where you end up drunk in a different town, and the dark brotherhood questline), oh and don't get me started on the conquest of cities for either side, it was way way way too easy for even a moderately leveled character...
All in all I did have fun playing that game, but I replayed it only once, and didn't even bother to finish it, whereas I played Oblivion at least 10 times, and it was more awesome with every re-play.

I still would feel better if they go back to the morrowind like leveling and storytelling ****

btw i think the fighting and whole gameplay in ANY elder srolls title sucks balls

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks all of this. inb4 "onlypersonwiththisopinion.jpg The game had its ups and downs, but like you said, it's definitely the worst title in the franchise. To add on to your points, the game was terribly unbalanced after a while, the world was HELLA small compared to the other titles, and things that they played up during the trailers and teasers ended up being unimportant in the actual gameplay. I will say that I enjoyed running around what little Skyrim there was, and that it WAS pretty, regardless of resolution. But when you say that they're 'casualising' the franchise, I couldn't agree more. It was fun when I played it at launch, but I find myself picking up Morrowind before I pick up skyrim. And for most of the "Skyrim is the best elder scrolls game ever" people... I highly doubt they've played any of the others.

Skyrim was the first I played in the series and I can't enjoy any of the others because of how bad the combat and game design is in those games. I have played 20+ hours of Oblivion, but I didn't enjoy it at all because the character design is laughable and the combat was just stupid, it didn't feel like I hit anything with my sword for example, it just felt like I flailed it around in the air until my enemy just fell to the ground. I simply couldn't get into Oblivion even though I spent many hours bored out of my mind. I have played more than 300 hours of Skyrim, though and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I believe that most people have to play the older titles before a newer title just because of how much they improved design and gameplay wise. Sure, the spells and quests for example were more interesting in Oblivion, but it fell flat for me when I couldn't enjoy the broken combat.

A lot of people also most likely has clouded judgment because of pure nostalgia.

TL;DR The older games had bad graphics, design and combat so if you've played Skyrim first they just can't compare.

P.S. I am ready for your rage.

You can't really expect much more from games that came in 2001 (morrowind) and 2006 (Oblivion). For those release dates, the graphics were unbelievable. If you could have some indulgence and see the games for what it actually is, rather than just focus on the graphics, would make you appriciate games so much more i believe.

It's not about the graphics, it's about the design. Especially how they designed the Khajiit and Orcs, I can't take the game seriously. The graphics are pretty good for their time, but they could've done a MUCH better job at making the characters look more serious. The date of release wasn't an excuse for the bad combat either, it felt lazy to me.

Very true, I did enjoy running around the world for a while but it loses its magic very quickly which is unfortunate. I think Bethesda have gotten lazy and that is shown with TES Online which is just a multiplayer Skyrim, or as I like to call it, another cash cow. Bethesda used to be good, Echelon being a good example of what they can do without the open world they try and do in all of their titles now.

Warning: Rant below.

It also didn't have the magic that playing Morrowind or Oblivion for the first time had. The tutorial felt like a drag and didn't contribute to the story beyond "time travelling dragon appears from nowhere", but when the gameplay actually starts it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. It felt lazy to me. They put the most effort into making Riverwood unique and as good as possible to convince people to play, yet as soon as you get to Whiterun and see how small it is that you realise there's been no improvement on the last games. The northern holds all look exactly the same and are filled with half-assed capitals with literally nothing in them or even walls around them. I was confused when I first saw Falkreath hold because the climate went from snowy in Bruma to forested to temperate plains to snowy again.

Like you said, the quests are all stale and similar and don't have any unique flair to them. It's always "go to this dungeon, follow the linear dungeon path, kill the Draugr Bosslord with the cliché name at the end, take the quest item out of the uber loot chest and take the door out the back which loops round to a hidden door to the start of the dungeon". For example, I tried roleplaying a scholar addicted to Dwemer technology but quickly abandoned him when every Dwemer ruin I explored was the same thing: Bandits on the outside, endless swarms of Falmer on the inside. I couldn't be bothered doing more than three dungeons.

Even the DLC was boring. Dawnguard armour was reminiscent of KotN crusader armour and the storyline was the same: kill the ancient bad guy who has returned to kill everyone. Isn't that really familiar to the main quest line? Dragonborn fueled itself on nostalgia, which is really quite sad. People bought it because they wanted to see content they have already seen.

I'm going to stop now because I'm running out of characters.
I will admit I enjoyed Skyrim the first time I played it, but it has no replayability value
