Oblivion was a generic "Knights and Fireballs" RPG. The only thing in Oblivion that had any Elder Scrolls flavor was the realm of Oblivion and Aylied Ruins.
I remember Morrowind at least being astounding. It was a new world of its own, completely fresh and new. No horses, no chickens, but rather Silt Striders, Nix Hounds and a sense of COMPLETE fantasy.
Skyrim captured at least a good portion of that, as they were able to re-capture some really amazing lore and immerse people in it. Made up for Horses, Chickens and Dragons, anyway.
Still, at least it was less generic than Oblivion, and don't get me started on how atrocious the characters looked.
This is coming from someone who spent no less than 800 hours playing Oblivion, too. Sure, I enjoyed the **** out of that game, but it was an appetizer. Bethesda's Dev Team who created Oblivion even told the fans that they were ashamed of the game in more ways they cared to admit.
tl;dr, it was worth enjoying when it was the best we had, but now it should be left buried and remembered fondly, but visited little.
I ain't mad or butthurt, just vocalizing my opinion.
