Grant and Lincoln weren't founding fathers.

they weren't but lincoln freed dem slaves and won the civil war that his election itself created. and grant was right after him helping sew the nation together, as wel he was the acting general for the army at the time so he won on that front.

Andrew Jackson is the face currently on our currency. He was single handedly behind the trail of tears.

Not the best for america's name to honor a pres who basically committed a genocide.

cuz you aren't getting rid of washington, lincoln freed the slaves no ones going to want to have him replaced, the tens to small for woman to be respected on Alexander Hamilton was a founding father you kinda have to have them on the money , and the 20s something they seem to like as its the most common bigish bill. besides women are already on the dollar coins don't they know this? susan b anthony and that one native lady who help luis and clark on there trip whos name i dont know.

Andrew Jackson is just as important as Lincoln, instead of fighting a revolution he suppressed them before they happened, kept us from taking significant losses in many battles in War of 1812, secured millions of acres of land out west. If they want to replace him they better find a women who's even more accomplished. Only then will it be acceptable.

History vs. Andrew Jackson - James Fester
Andrew Jackson's the most historically controversial figure (even though pretty much everyone on the slips has skeletons in their closet). For every good he's done, he's got quite a bit of bad. He ended our dependence on the national bank, but his incompetent understanding of economics caused the nation to enter an economic crisis such that we had to bring the national bank back up. He drove the natives to away from their homes and caused a great deal of pain and distress, but he believed it was the only way to stop an even worse massacre via the rising desire for expansion. Etcetera, etcetera.
This video shows a bit of a neutral perspective on some of the major points of his presidency.
User avatar #117 to #116 - akkere ONLINE (03/21/2015) [-]

Are there feminists in the UK? sorry if it's a stupid question
User avatar #259 to #252 - questionableferret (03/22/2015) [-]
It's phrased like a stupid question, because ofc there are feminists in most places, but what I think you mean isn't a stupid question, because the kind of feminists in the UK are either different, quieter, or far less numerous than the ones in the U.S., and that could be for a number of various reasons.

There are, I guess, but I've never encountered anyone even nearly as militant as the stories that come out of the US. In the UK schools generally are a lot more reserved and kids have a lot less room to express their individuality. Uniforms, rules, etc. It doesn't stop bullying but it does keep people a lot better behaved than the stories from across the pond indicate the US is like.

Plus, the UK is a lot less tense about racial and gender issues than the US is. We've already had a female Prime Minister (and she managed to become the second most famous one in the past 100 years with her divisive policies) and whilst there are still issues with race and gender most people seem to be generally a lot cooler about the whole thing. There's been a big influx of people from the Middle East lately and that has caused tension and forced a lot of the closet bigots out into the open in a very big way but generally the people of the UK are just far too easygoing to get caught up in all that **** .

Honestly, that may be biting us in the arse at the moment because we generally don't get up in arms about stuff and just let things be, but that has caused kind of the opposite problem that the US political system is facing atm. In the US both parties are just different kinds of poison and both parties have fiercely deluded morons voting desperately to keep them in power. In the UK most parties are different kinds of poison and people are well aware of this and just don't bother voting for anyone, pretty sure they're gonna be screwed no matter how the dice rolls.

It's why we have such good comedy shows in the UK. You need to be funny in order to deal with the concentrated misery and apathy that penetrates our streets. Here, have a nice big dollop of UK Self-Loathing, courtesy of me:

It has nothing to do with the people on the bills being men, but rather the stuff they did make them the most important people in United States' history even though there is room to debate that some are more important than others
$1 - George Washington: Father of the Country, First President, etc.
$2 - Thomas Jefferson: wrote the Declaration of Independence, Third President, etc.
$5 - Abraham Lincoln: led through the Civil War and helped end slavery, etc.
$10 - Alexander Hamilton: shaped the banking system in the United States.
$20 - Andrew Jackson: expanded the voting rights of people in the United States.
$50 - Ulysses S. Grant: general that won the Civil War and eighteenth president.
$100 - Benjamin Franklin: inventor, created the post-office and held the country together during the Revolution.

Trail of Tears? I mean, seriously...
User avatar #79 to #67 - magicmatchsticks (03/21/2015) [-]
The trail of tears was one of the worst things that America has ever done. However, Van Buren executed it, though Jackson may have planned it.

But remember this- most of the american people would have been perfectly happy with just killing every indian on sight. The trail of tears, however horrible, was gentle compared to what most frontiersmen were prepared to do. Jackson was perfectly capable of doing so much worse, and it would have made many frontier areas- like where Jackson was from- very happy. The fact that he didn't- as well as that he adopted a native american child, whom he raised as his only son and loved- speaks much to the fact that he had humanity, even if he was still the meanest, ugliest sunovabitch ever elected president.

I actually read somewhere that Jackson's on the $20 out of spite - he HATED paper currency he had a point though - switching from paper currency to coins exclusively would save us billions every year, because paper money degrades quickly and has to be taken out of circulation after a couple of years, while coins can last for decades.

It's not harmless if it costs money.

I'm assuming you're female and that's why you want that cus equality and **** .

If there'd be a women on the dollar things wouldn't become more equal, noone would change the way the think about women and your soggy knees wouldn't heal either.

what's the deal? wouldn't you rather have efforts to make life easier for everone?
its only that it costs money but there's a person out there telling people that the dollar thing is a problem. they're waisting their time now aswell. meanwhile they could do some actual steps towards equality. like you know. actual equality and not just whining about "under-represantation".
User avatar #245 to #242 - helenwheels (03/22/2015) [-]

srsly why would i have a problem with women wtf is wrong with you
seems like you're assuming i have a problem with women tho
i wonder where that comes from

its just that i dont see the point in doing it as long as it would take any effort at all.
why throw the cash out of the window. we wouldn't really feel it, its probably less than 1 cent for everyone. but the thing is. why. they could just buy me a new computer, like that at least one person would be genuely happy.

its not i think its ******* stupid and i thought that was obvious.
you're trying really hard to make me out to be a bad guy ain't ya?
just to be clear, im for equality.
i made a joke about soggy knees earlies becaues this seems like the kind of "problem" someone cares about that has nothing to do with equality and its just super nit picky crap.
if i'd get to decide men and women would all be equal in the workforce, everywhere in all jobs, same in schools same in arts same in politics.
but they're not and changing some random picture of a guy into a woman isn't gonna help.
if you still dont trust me on this how bout that:
im in a "reverse" relationship, where i cook, i do the housework she do the money. i work too, but as a graphic designer so its not really as relyable, point being i dont want to opress women and make them seem like they cant do anything important.
i believe a good person can do good. may that be a woman a man, a cracker a ****** , a crippe, a ******* dog, i always judge people by who they are and not who they share similiarity with. or gender for that matter.
