How the US has it, where senators work for companies and corruption is legal, is too much capitalism. In the old Soviet where the "government" decided everything and you weren't allowed to flourish, is too little.
As much as most of these posts are stupid, you do want a balance. If capitalism had no resistance, you would tend towards dictatorship.

They were employed by nearby county and cities as educators, and they are known by this.
Once the revolutionary come, they actually welcome the red army since the old government, which was once a symbol of progressive and modernization, was riddled with corruption and incompetency.
It was hard at first, but it is the path of every new born regime. However, as time went on, they found themselves isolated. Many of them lost their jobs. Those who managed to still employed found the government stripped their titles as educators and repurposed them as mere mouth of the government. Massive producing the youth of this country.
The next generation completely embraced the teaching of the government. The youth see the tradition as suppression, thousands of years of accumulate knowledge as shackle, and those who hold knowledge as traitors.
Soon, another revolution came, but this times, the land lords, the elders, those who practiced the arts of old, and the educators became their targets.
My teacher, alone with her two sisters and uncle escaped across the ocean when the chaos descended. The rest of villagers were dragged away to jail. Many of them went under public shaming, some to the forced labor, and many more just simply rotted in confinement.
Regardless their punishment, all of them ended up in massive grave, as criminals, as traitors, as enemy of the party.
My teacher lived to see the map no longer has her home village on the map.
She still tears up when she told us this story.

So, they will choose cheaper, to have more
I want to be - capitalism
So they will go higher and higher so they can be more, earn more, and have more expensive things to be seen as someone high.
iPhone is prestige - you can deny it all you want, but if you can allow yourself to purchase crap (literally) for a thousand bucks, then it means that you've successfully made it through capitalism.
