Alternate article

Woman chooses to give birth to an already mostly dead Baby
She forces it to live out its short painful life until death
She donates its body parts without its consent.
yay

I don't get it, if a child only lived for about an hour, why would one think their organs are safe to use?

Not necessary, Brains of not devolped Babys are already rare to aquire and fascinaiting to study, at most if it was the reason for said failure it may be even worth aquiring it to get the particular reason for why it failed, but for some reason you have to state often extra that your organs may be used for scientific purposes.

Dunno why, not like they can implant my brain into someone.

#70 to #50 - anon (12/04/2015) [-]
If they knew she was going to die, that means they knew what was wrong with her. In fact, the article implies they were aware of this BEFORE the pregnancy. So they already knew what the problem is and therefore already knew which organs would be functional and which (if any) would not. Autopsy probably wasn't even necessary.
#118 to #70 - bouncingbananas ONLINE (12/04/2015) [-]

User avatar #271 to #118 - overture ONLINE (12/04/2015) [-]
I think what anon was trying to say is that the wife may have known the child was going to have problems before it was BORN, not pregnant. Ultrasounds can tell a lot.
#400 to #271 - anon (12/04/2015) [-]
dear gods i hope it was before the child was born and not pregnant, that's a whole 16 year gap at least. you made it sound like before the baby was pregnant.

That feel when I know that there are people on this site that refuse to be organ donors.
#294 to #14 - anon (12/04/2015) [-]
I am an organ donor, but I can give some reasons for not wanting to be one. For instance, if you get in an accident and put on life supply, and they don't know if you will survive, they might give up on your body sooner to use your organs. There is a story not sure if true or not of a girl who was in a coma and her parents had just given up hope and signed the papers, when she woke up. There is like less than 1% chance of that happening, but it is worth considering. I doubt that is what the majority of people think about when they choose not to be donors, most likely it is because they haven't taken the time to sign the papers, they have a religious reason behind it, or maybe they want their entire body to be buried, not just the shell kind of religious perhaps, but I for one has chosen not to donate my skin, because I want to be buried in it. The rest they can take and then make me up like they do with stuffed animals, but I think there should be something to keep the stuffing together.
#310 to #294 - anon (12/04/2015) [-]
This is a myth. The emergency team that tries to save you after an accident is completely different than the organ recovery team. I work in this field.

That kinda ruins his whole post. It's just *********** really.

Instead of *********** , he could have said something in the lines of "If your religion prohibits you of an act that would save the life of someone else, there must be something wrong. Back in the days the bible was written, organ transfer was something that could never have been achieved by the equipment available those days.

Or anything else that could start a discussion. Because what he said just leads to more *********** .

But...wouldn't those organs only be usable for other newborns?
User avatar #212 to #12 - sphincterface (12/04/2015) [-]
Yeah, and newborn organs are extremely rare. So this little baby has saved the lives of other babies, when usually the option is to accept the fact that your child is going to die when it has organ failures that quickly.
User avatar #34 to #12 - thesovereigngrave ONLINE (12/03/2015) [-]
Well, I mean it'd save the lives of those newborns who need a replacement organ for some reason.
User avatar #46 to #12 - crypticmerle (12/04/2015) [-]
I can imagine that it's even rarer for an infant to be able to receive a transplant than an adult or even a child. Small body cavities and such. But there are plenty of babies born with heart defects, etc that may or may not be operable and perhaps a transplant is their only option.

Someone with more personal knowledge on the subject may know otherwise though.
User avatar #85 to #46 - andriod (12/04/2015) [-]
Isn't a heat transplant only supposed to last for like 10-15 years anyway?

User avatar #427 to #85 - crypticmerle (12/04/2015) [-]
Pretty much.
But we're talking about a species that will happily undergo a treatment that will buy them far less time than that. I'm not a doctor or know anyone who's had a heart transplant but I'd assume there's a plan B for when the donor heart eventually fails. Get back on the transplant list? In the scheme of things, 10-15 years is a pretty good stretch if it means there might be more advances in medicine down the road.
User avatar #45 to #12 - handsomestalin (12/04/2015) [-]
newborns can have faulty organs too
User avatar #226 - murderdollsqueen (12/04/2015) [-]
When my dad died, I was given the decision of whether his organs should be donated. I said yes, and we received a letter in the post a few days later to say that because we donated, we were able to save a newborn baby boy's life who needed heart valves. **** like that gives you a little bit of hope in such a harrowing situation.
