Why not simply "Lives Matter" ?
#212 to #73 - anon (09/29/2015) [-]
There's already an implication that Police lives matter because whenever a police is killed there is news coverage of it. When someone of darker skin complexion is killed you rarely hear a peep. BlackLivesMatter isn't saying that only black lives matter, it's saying that Black Lives matter also.

Glad to know cops lives are more important than citizens.
That you can be killed for "reaching towards your waist" because a death sentence doesn't need the proof that you're an actual threat.
#122 to #115 - ainise (09/29/2015) [-]
Activist critical of police undergoes use of force scenarios

There are numerous rules, stipulations, etc. all going into what a police officer does. If you rush a police officer, if you threaten a police officer, if you do something that seems like you're attempting to take the police officer's life, they are trained to take you down by any means necessary.

I'm legit afraid of police because I grew up in a small, corrupt as **** town. The police were the drug dealers of my small city, if they didn't like you, you were busted with stuff that can get you put away for life...that being said, if you don't comply with an officer's reasonable demands, you are putting, in his eyes, his life at danger and as thus, your own life in danger.

Do what the officer tells you, and 9999 times out of 10,000 it will end without incident. Make suspicious movements, ignore the officer's demands, jump in a car and attempt to take his gun, and you will have a problem.
User avatar #123 to #122 - ericzxvc (09/29/2015) [-]
Nope, most of the time that **** goes out the window.
Besides I don't give two flying ***** if somebody reaches for their waistband, or runs away, or anything. Unless a police officer reasonably thinks there is a threat on his life he does not just get to ******* kill people.
Often police officers demands aren't reasonable, and guess what, they aren't martial law; not complying with them is not a death sentence.
That's not true at all, there have been so many incidents recently where the person did nothing wrong and yet ended up dead, and to be honest I don't care if they did something wrong. Unless it was something to threaten the officer's life, if they killed them, the police are in the wrong.
#124 to #123 - ainise (09/29/2015) [-]
As an officer, you would likely die in your first year of service if you worked in any major city.
User avatar #125 to #124 - ericzxvc (09/29/2015) [-]
First off let's see a statistic instead of pulling numbers out of our ass shall we?
Second off that is completely unrelated, yes police work is dangerous, but that's what you ******* signed up for. You do not get to kill people because they twitched because it's a risky job.
#126 to #125 - ainise (09/29/2015) [-]
On average, from the years of 2003 to 2009, 685 people killed in "arrest-related deaths" per year. 45% of these were people who assaulted the officer.

3% of these were attempts to arrest for alleged violent crime victims whom were later found to not be directly related.

The remaining 11% go to suicide, generally cop-assisted suicide.

Of these, there were 14,000,000 arrests per year, on average. That's a homicide rate of .004% per arrest.

This 3%, or 21 people, are what you generally hear on the news. I'm not saying that not all of these shootings were good - that certainly isn't the case.

61.5% are considered Homicide, 11.2% are considered suicide, 10.9% are considered intoxication, 5.7% are considered Accidental, 5.1% are considered natural causes, 5.7% are considered unknown.

The hell use are these statistics? They tell us ******** . 13.7 people on average die per year per state due to police related activities. Of those, 11% will die to getting overly intoxicated and being arrested, 11% will kill themselves, 5% will die of a heart attack, 5% will die and no one will know why, and 60% will get shot, about 45% of which were attempting to kill the officer. The remaining 15% is a cause of concern, leading to about 10% of questionable shootings by police officers every year.

I think most people would agree that 10-20% of police killings every year are questionable.

I was just saying that naiveté would lead you to be in overtly dangerous scenarios, if you didn't attempt to pacify a person and allow them to reach in a place where hand guns are commonly stored by thugs. Are you going to hold your gun on them and let them reach for, what you should assume, is a gun? If they deny your demands and refuse to get on the ground, will you still not fire? If they pull out a weapon will you still not fire? What if it's not a gun and it's just a knife? When will you fire? What if they charge you without a weapon? Are you going to fist fight someone who may still be hiding a weapon?

In 2013, 119 people lost their life in the line of duty. 25 in car accidents, 3 in duty related illnesses, 2 drown, 1 to a bomb, 4 from being pushed from high places(falling), 31 were shot to death, 10 to heart attacks, 2 were stabbed, 8 were struck by vehicle, 4 lost their life in pursuit of a vehicle, 5 by vehicular assault. That's about twice as many as questionable police killings.
User avatar #138 to #126 - lathyrusvii (09/29/2015) [-]
Hey. Hey ericzxvc. Hey.

Hey pulled statistics out of his ass.

But hey. I don't think he needed to.

Get your neckbeard out of your ass and get a reality check.
Only on FJ would people be so out of touch with reality they say that somebody who values human life and thinks that cops kill more people than is necessary would be told they "lost" an argument.

How ******* stupid are you? There's enormous protests, coverage all over the media, people dying every day, and yet this armchair apparent expert and smarter than all of these people is right. Because he "won" an Internet argument. I'll go pass the message along, all these families mourning and people committing their lives to making a difference were proven wrong by this guy on FJ.

Jesus ******* christ you need to gain some perspective.
User avatar #174 to #166 - lathyrusvii (09/29/2015) [-]
lol. you said that you don't give flying ***** when a person reaches for a police officer's waistband.

Look, you missed the argument in the first place, because you're going off on one tangent, and he's going off on another. The line of communication is broken, and it's been done. All you have now is high blood pressure from misplaced anger.

All I did was poke at you, and you exploded. You should eat your own words, and gain some perspective yourself.

Me, I eat my own words all day. Keeps me healthy. You, I dunno.

You're kinda easy.
User avatar #173 to #166 - lathyrusvii (09/29/2015) [-]
So like, I read your first sentence, but I decided I don't have to take that.

Not from an argument loser. o_o Man, are you this easy to piss off in real life? Your high blood pressure is gonna be the end of you.
User avatar #163 to #126 - ericzxvc (09/29/2015) [-]
Do you know how to source things? You know you include the source right? That's literally the entire point of it.
You're really coming at me with data that's 6-12 years-old?
Here's a chill 3% of people who died who were completely unrelated but that's acceptable right? I mean if my friends or family was killed when they were unrelated I would say hey, I'm ok with that, the police officer was just doing his job, killing innocent people.
If they pull a gun on you, you fire, your life is in immediate danger.
If they pull a knife you don't shoot, if they run at you with a knife you shoot, your life is in immediate danger.
That's the criteria, immediate danger to yourself or other people.
Are you ******** me? You want to kill someone because they won't get on the ground? What the **** is wrong with you, we don't live in Nazi Germany, you don't kill people for not listening to you. You use NECESSARY FORCE, shooting someone for not getting on the ground is not NECESSARY.
I don't think you realize the value of a human life, imagine your mother or your father or your best friend was killed for no reason, but because a cop "made a mistake" or he "wouldn't listen to the cops", unless he posed an immediate and serious threat they should not be killed.
If somebody punches an officer, or thrashes at them and tries to run away, that's still not a death sentence. A police officers duty is to protect and serve its citizens, how many police officers right now seem like they're serving their citizens? Not a lot because the culture is so ****** up they look at them like the enemy.

#213 to #163 - ainise (09/29/2015) [-]
Er..I'm not from the future. It takes literally years to go through those 100,000,000 cases and file them, etc. This was the last official released statistics by the FBI when looking into the police departments, it's not really hard to find.

21 people per year, in the entirety of the U.S. were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It doesn't specifically say why they died nor any specifics, it's a statistic after all. That's how they work. They literally could have been hit by a ricochet from the officer attempting to subdue a dangerous perpetrator. Who knows.

Let me introduce you to the Karambit. This knife is incredibly small, incredibly sharp and INCREDIBLY dangerous, coming from one of the most dangerous martial art styles from Africa. These blades are easily concealed even without clothing. The main fighting style involving these is to slash the jugular. If you can throw a punch, you can kill a man with nearly no possibility of responding.

Let's also not forget the infamous 21 foot rule. Within 21 foot, with a gun and dagger both hidden away, the dagger should almost always win. Mind you a quickdraw artist would be different, but most cops are not that.

Do you know /why/ they tell you to get on the ground? So that you are pacified. You are no longer a threat, then they put you in their car and speak to you behind a mesh. We humans are fragile, afterall. One shot, One slash, One kick, One punch, One head butt is all it takes to kill someone if it's in the right place.

Who ever said anything about Nazi Germany? Who ever mentioned killing people on the streets?

It's ironic that you would bring up my parents and friends in a hope to try to appeal to my sentimental side, but you'd be wrong there. My dad is the enforcer of an organization, right hand man to the head. My mom is probably a schizophrenic who no longer wnats to see doctors, and as such is not getting any medication. I have a diagonised sociopath for a friend. I would not blame the cop who took any of their lives, as I know for a fact what they are all capable of.

I've also spent 11 years of my life in a town so corrupt I'm surprised grass could even grow. From the mayor to the thugs, everyone feared the cops. I've seen what corrupt cops can do, and I've seen drug dealings protected by cops in my father's shop and I've also seen drug dealers busted for 'encroaching on the cops territory'. I've seen people busted for things I know they didn't do, and I've seen people literally get away with murder.

I don't have a naive sense of the world, so sorry but a plea to emotions will not convince me of one thing or another. I don't like cops because of how much power they have and what a corrupt organization can do. That being said, the reasons you're spouting are not reasons to hate police.

User avatar #21 to #20 - tspears (09/29/2015) [-]
So like a taser attachment on their gun? if that's what you mean, it would be too big to put on a handgun, and if they think the situation isn't dangerous enough to use a gun, then they should just pull out their taser and use it instead of their gun.
#22 to #21 - uioiape (09/29/2015) [-]
Ye like that
User avatar #27 to #22 - drldrl (09/29/2015) [-]
There's actually an attachment being made that officers can use in situations where they have time. Say someone is showing threatening behavior and not listening, but not charging them. Since they have the time, they put this over the barrel of the gun. When a regular bullet is fired into it, it melds with a metal ball that is projected towards them. It does have a chance to kill still, but less than that of a regular bullet.
#31 to #27 - tspears (09/29/2015) [-]
The only downside is that it only works for the first bullet fired, and in my opinion if a LEO draws their firearm and points it at a person, they intend to use deadly force with every shot they fire. If they pull their gun on someone and then the situation changes to where deadly force isn't justifiable, then they should deescalate from using the gun and revert to a form of non-lethal force (taser, OC, baton...) to handle the situation. LEO's need to have the proper discretion to know when and when not to use deadly force (majority do).

On another note, the attachment is retarded looking.

people are saying we need to focus on all police and across the nation change training that is more often than not working. its a ratio of 1 in 1000 vs 1 in 500,000. thats the overall ratio of cops killed vs cops killing people. meaning cops have five hundred times the chance of being killed than a civilian being killed by a cop justified or otherwise. the unjustified are going to drop much much further seeing as you may be able to find 50 cases at best

if you look closely, you can see a face. I say this cause my extension recognized a face and put a beard on it.

I prefer non-lethal over lethal, any day.

#LivesMatter There. I solved all your stupid racist ******** in one hashtag. I'm tired of seeing this us vs them mentality everywhere on the news. It's like why aren't we fighting for more renewable resources, exploring more of space, or **** it: legalizing weed around the word so people can just chill the **** out and enjoy our short time on this planet.

Claiming that #blacklivesmatter is racist is like saying "save the rainforest" means " **** all other trees"

#blacklivesmatter is racist. All they do is complain about their ****** situation and blame it on whitey and /or the police. And when someone who isn't black tries to help them they get booed off stage (Bernie Sanders) and start chimping out for no reason other than to have that excuse.
My point is that rather than blaming everyone else for their **** they should own up to it, fix their attitude and work for it like everyone else does.
I'm not saying there aren't racist cops out there but in all of these cases where black people died by police hands there was warranted use of force that took a bad turn (except that guy in NY who was just peddling cigs that was ****** up)

Since I think many laws are unnecessary, immoral, or unconstitutional, I can't really say that I support the people who enforce those laws.

Just because you don't agree with some laws doesn't mean you shouldn't support the people who enforce the laws. Other than enforcing laws, their other main duty is to serve and protect people, which shouldn't be overlooked. I don't agree with many laws either, and neither do most police officers who have to enforce those laws, but its part of their job.

The US Supreme Court has actually ruled that there's no duty for police to protect anyone, so that's more of a belief than fact. But it's not some laws, there's a lot that I disagree with--probably more than the ones I think are actually legitimate.
