I actually slowed down the footage with some friends. If you look at the point where he gets hit, you can see the bolt strikes his weapon, not his armor.

Feel free to correct me if you can get a clearer shot of him getting hit by Chewbacca's blaster. I watched it with a few "nines" Fanboys on one of their phones, so we're probably mistaken...

I was watching SW yesterday and I THOUGHT I saw a burned out hole, but it wasn't. Scene later you can see every tropper has that black dot on the back, it's part of the armor's design.
