I don't see why anyone would have a preference, it's all arbitrary anyway. I just don't wanna relearn everything.

The metric system is just easier to work with in my opinion.
You have a base value and then everything is pretty much timed or divided with 10, instead of having to go from inches to feet to yards to miles.

Metric is easier to do quick divisions and to use in measurements, but standard is easier in day-to-day life.

It's only easier because you're used to it.

Dude who gives a **** half of the time they give you inches and centimeters, fahrenheit and celsius etc etc. Just stop trying to kiss the ******* europeans ass and live with what you have you cocksucker

No... That's not what I'm trying to say either. Fact is that a standardized system would be extremely helpful for everyone and would save a massive amount of time, money and confusion. I'm telling you this as an egineer, designing something when multiple methods of measurement are being used and have to be implemented is an utter pain in the ass.

5-dollar 30-centimeter longs just aren't the same

The metric system makes 1000% more sense, but at this point, the ****** up American way of measuring things is so deeply ingrained that it'd be impossible to make the switch. So I wish we'd adopted the metric system back before the internet age, but I don't want us to switch now.

You'll think that child until you get into the real world where everything is not in Metric and then everything would be confusing as hell
User avatar #52 to #50 - mutzaki (01/12/2014) [-]
Not everything is in metric? No ************ what happens when the country you live in doesn't use metric. However, if America did switch to metric, it wouldn't be confusing.

Does it really matter?

We have our system, it works for us. There's a reason we don't change to Metric, Celsius, Or change Soccer to Football.

It would take too much time and money to change everything to it. All the street signs, all the cars, all the maps, all the atlases, and all the books. Think of how long it would take to recall and change it all, or to make stuff to replace it all. Plus everyone would have to learn the metric system and how it works.

We don't change because we're 'Murica and we do what we want, or cause we're afraid of change, but because we know it would be too difficult to change.

I don't know, I feel like when someone says everyone should use the imperial system is like saying everyone should speak the same language.

As a guy that was born in Europe and now live in the US, every American that cares enough or has to use metric, they do so. It's not hard. Honestly the complaint shouldn't be that Americans should learn metric, it should be that other countries have to learn the imperial system when they're in the US. But honestly, the imperial system is just as easy to learn as metric, just have it on a notecard if you're a dumbass, it's not hard people.

"it should be that other countries have to learn the imperial system when they're in the US. "

fair enough, but you do know the US ships goods right? cars are good example. my metric tools don't always fit on my american car because the bolts and nuts are imperial.

Me too, but considering it would cost billions of dollars to convert EVERYTHING to metric.......It will happen eventually.

Imperial measurements were the waste of millions for that one NASA satellite that broke in orbit because one twat counted the path using the imperial system.
