The sea slug is a hermaphrodite, meaning that the sea slug has both male and female reproductive organs. Sea slugs release eggs into the water in ribbon-like sticky clusters which can contain thousands of eggs but usually much less. The eggs are fertilized and the sea slug larvae (the baby sea slugs) soon develop and become bigger, after hatching from their sticky eggs.

Collectively they are called Nudibranchs if that makes you happy

Sea slugs are best slugs because

a) They're fabulous, just look at them.

b) They don't crawl under my back door in the middle of the night, cover my kitchen in slime and then **** off before morning, evading the slipper of justice.

Quite a few of these, number 3 in particular, aren't actually sea slugs. They're nudibranchs. Similar, but they don't have the sticky foot that slugs do, and feed on coral/invertebrates, not vegetable matter.

"The name "sea slug" is most often applied to nudibranchs, as well as to a paraphyletic set of other marine gastropods without obvious shells"
