Great comp!

You should also add that:

1. Loosing your weapon was punichable with death.

2. In war samurai collectedheads of other samurai and presented them to their warlord and gained honor and prestige that way. This was a huge deal, it even caused friendly samurai to kill each other and steal heads. There was a special technique for removing heads on the battlefield. Also samurai used to smoke their helmets in nice scent before battle beliveing that would make their head a better trophie.

3. They had priests write special "blessings" on paper. I'm sure everyone saw it since it's common in anime (just words written on a paper). Before battle they would burn those papers and then put the ashes into sake (Japan's alchoholic drink) and drink it thus beliveing it would give them inner strenght from the blessings.

4. Also not sure if all, but many armors were made just of glued paper, it was light but there was no way to slice trought it. It couldn't stop a spear or arrow tho, but any sword sure.

the katana was a samurai's main fighting sword, but they had a secondary sword called the wakazashi. this was considered their "spirit sword", or their honor sword, and would never leave their side. it was also the sword mainly used in harakiri. the katana and the wakazashi together is called a daisho

Some interesting facts for you smellingtomatoes, that I don't think anyone else mentioned and could have made it into your comp. I am a bit of a samurai fanatic you see.

When they did the decapitations in the seppuku it was dishonorable to let the head touch the floor so they developed a technique that would cut through 95% of your neck leave only the muscles at the front of your throat so your head would dangle kind of like a hinge.

When they killed themselves for there lord the more creative the suicide the more honor you would receive in your next life, so they would do things like slice there hand from forefinger to palm till there hand was a point and shove it down there throat till the choked on their blood.

The Wakazashi was a heavy weapon used for smashing armor and bones.

The Katana was actually a hitting weapon, like an axe, the would bash with the bottom third in hope to cut deep, then cut out with the rest of the blade.

There is more but this comment is too long. Just wanted to add

During the medieval period, particularly the 12th and 13th centuries, before the use of the katana, samurai's prided themselves on their horsemanship and bowmanship, and battles would sometimes be decided by jousting battles between two samurai in which they would ride towards eachother and try to shoot eachother off their horses.

Not all samurai had as much honor as the individuals we see portrayed in movies. Tsujigiri was one of the most gruesome terms practitioned by samurai in the Sengoku period.
A samurai with a newly-received sword would often kill a random civilian, mostly at nighttime, to 'test' the sword.
Tsujigiri was made illegal relatively early, though, but just goes to show how our perception of the 'Honored Samurai' may actually be very wrong. Just a different perspective for ya.

I've got a good one:

There are only a handful of master blacksmiths left in Japan. They are considered living national treasures and are highly encouraged by the Japanese government to train successors.

All of those Samurai swords you've seen on TV or science programs are all cheap, peace of crap, manufactured knock offs. Think Legendary quality in skryim compared to fine. If a factory produced Katana can cut through a metal folding chair... I can only imagine what a Master's Sword could do.

As it is very few of those swords actually exist. They are priceless.

Just a small fact to add to this comp that has to do with the last fact.

In media, it's often shown that Samurai have two swords on them at all times, one Katana and one shorter blade (Wakazashi? I don't know, I'm not Japanese nor do I watch Anime). Contrary to popular belief, the shorter blade was not actually a back-up weapon, but the weapon they used to kill themselves with should they be disgraced. One sword to slay your enemies, one to slay yourself.

actually a wakazashi was a back up weapon, it was used inside buildings because its length was better suited, it was also used to behead enemies and commit seppuku. The Katana was left at the door of a building while the wakazashi was kept for defence

Now I feel bad for any samurai trainees that were raped by their gay masters. "This is part of your training right sensei?" "Uh, yes. Training."

Hari-kiri would be done with a secondary, shorter sword. Not sure of the name. But they'd carry around a shortsword just for suicide purposes

You should also mention Samurai were also excellent horse mounted warriors. They were trained to use a bow or a naginata (pretty much a dagger attached to a long pole) and were extremely proficient and deadly.
They didn't take as much pride in their horses, or guard them like knights did, but they did rely on their steed, and horseback cavalry made the best samurai.
