what does ganbatte mean?
User avatar #17 to #16 - norwegiansnowman [OP](08/31/2015) [-]
Ganbatte" means "Good luck!" or "Do your best" or "You can do it".
Depends which sentence you use it in.

People asking about what ganbatte means and what the suffix means but i'm over here wondering what the **** a roomba is and why is no one else asking?

I guess the way you asked could seem kind of aggressive.

Also it specifically is a small robot that drives around in random directions and detects obstacles and whatnot while vacuuming a floor

Fair enough. I dont exactly go around looking to be praised for my mannerisms though.
I thought those little things were popular like pre 2010 yeah? I havent seen them advertised in a long time.

Sure isn't, it isn't for people who liked the first season
User avatar #89 to #88 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
But the first season didn't have much going on.....
User avatar #90 to #89 - Kairyuka (09/01/2015) [-]
Lots of slice of life humorous friendly stories about a lot of interesting characters, whereas After Story had a random pointless post-apocalyptic side-story that made no sense and tons of forced drama with the worst characters.
User avatar #92 to #90 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
***** I KNOW you're talking about the story for the tea room girl and there I have to agree, not that I minded so much, but I agree that it was a bit forced, that aside if it wasn't for the ending of the show the first season doesn't have any kind of satisfaction when it ends.
User avatar #93 to #92 - Kairyuka (09/01/2015) [-]
Now that is true, but they only made the first season that way because both stories were already out as VNs. They could've easily made a better conclusion or a better second season, and I don't know if it works better in the VNs (as the first VN was so slow and boring that I simply couldn't get through it). I really liked all the colorful and funny characters in the first season, the main character had some good synergy with some of the characters that brought out his personality, his humor etc. Him being with Nagisa made him blander than a wheat toast ice cube sandwich.
User avatar #94 to #93 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
I disagree with the last part of your comment.
I never got too far in the VN either but if I'm not mistaken it was ONE VN where you could only play the after story if you got all the paths first.
I remember reading about it to make more sense of the story. That being said I have decided that there are two ways of interpreting the show, either you take it as some sort of example or lesson, or you watch it as a show the way it's presented.
What I mean by that is that as a show everything ends well, as a lesson though it (in very loose manner) puts you in the shoes of someone who loses his wife and then his child, AKA in life there is no happy ending after that.
User avatar #96 to #94 - Kairyuka (09/01/2015) [-]
Oh don't even get me started on the final retcon that negates most of the ******* series. We spent so much time watching people mope and be depressed and in the end the payoff is " **** you, it was boring AND it didn't matter".
Also there's legitimately no chemistry between the MC and Nagisa. All they do is blurt "uguu" and be like "We're in love!" without any actual connection of interests or personalities. Nagisa has no interests, the MC has no interests, neither of them has any personality besides "I am MC" and "I am weak girl". At least Kyou had a pig, a moped, she did martial arts and was masculine, but wanted to work as a teacher. They discarded all the characters with actual personalities for the most boring characters in Clannad.
User avatar #97 to #96 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
As someone who has lived like that I find it more realistic and easier for me to connect to it, some people are like that, their lives aren't filled with activity and they only find interest in their loved ones. I will be honest I hated that and now I do martial arts but I spent most of my life (so far) like that and I can understand how it is.
User avatar #98 to #97 - Kairyuka (09/01/2015) [-]
I just can't relate to a character that doesn't like doing anything, doesn't want to do anything, and has no idea what they wanna do with their life. Especially not when they find a "significant other" which is just some girl they can obsess over rather than an actual partner in a healthy relationship. I wouldn't want to watch a live action show about someone who does nothing, wants nothing, likes nothing, and just obsesses over their gf either, it's just hollow. He goes after the one person that brings up nothing in him.
User avatar #99 to #98 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
I don't understand how you see it that way, but oh well, many people like the show and not everyone for the same reasons. That being said If I took everything good from the show into account and everything bad, it's still a crushing majority of good things, so much that I can ignore the bad stuff entirely.
User avatar #100 to #99 - Kairyuka (09/01/2015) [-]
Can you see how I was severely disappointed by it though? The first one had humor, friendship, fun consequence-free shenanigans and some over-the-top jokes like the grey-haired girl, the blond guy and the tiny autistic girl. After Story had... someone doing boring work they don't like? 2-minute cameos by actual interesting characters? A super slow sub-plot that makes no sense and does not tie into anything about Clannad? I just don't get why I'm supposed to care about any of the characters, they are not even written like humans.
User avatar #101 to #100 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
Reminds me of the transition from school to working a full time job in a ****** shop.
I guess the only thing I can say is that I find a way to relate to the show in both seasons.
Or maybe we can just say you prefer comedy?
User avatar #102 to #101 - Kairyuka (09/01/2015) [-]
I do, but I can enjoy a good drama with characters I like and can see as actual people and not just cardboard cutouts. In my eyes, After Story took a whole different direction than the first season, and that doesn't HAVE to be bad, that's just how it ended up. I have no idea what they were thinking.

Don't remind me of that.

I'm a grown ass man. Since I was five years old, there's only been one time I've cried, and that was the episode on the train where he had to explain to his ******* daughter what Nagisa was like because Ushio never got to meet her. I shed 2 tears during that scene.
User avatar #14 to #13 - burntcheesey (08/31/2015) [-]
was referring to this scene Your Turn to Cry
#15 to #14 - animesource ONLINE (08/31/2015) [-]
This didn't have much effect on me.
Heaviest part for me was when they were on the train. Ushio asks about her mother and it just starts showing a bunch of flashbacks. Nagisa died and Tomoya tried to escape through work, but moments like these make you realize that right now Nagisa is only a memory.
#23 to #15 - chikibriki ONLINE (09/01/2015) [-]
tomoya realized he basically turned into his father. on his days off he drank and gambled
User avatar #95 to #23 - iwantasubmarine (09/01/2015) [-]
Also extremely underrated is the story of his father, I feel like it is often overlooked, and to make things worse, even in the anime his father doesn't get a happy ending.
User avatar #103 to #95 - chikibriki ONLINE (09/01/2015) [-]
i wonder what he did to get in jail and make tomoya lose out o n a good job

I think it was drug related, and the company didn't want to hire the son of a drug dealer or junkie.

Probably the best scene in the show IMO.
Basically if someone says that Clannad is cartoony or cliche, I think of this scene.

Because the dude was (totally not a weeaboo) really in japan and really had a "Host-mom" that talked to the roomba. We need time stamps and pictures if the stories are to be taken seriously.
