All these scam e-mails remind me of a story from my time as a TA, teaching a low-level biology lab.

So the students' project throughout the semester was to do fitness stuff, record their results and whatnot, write a journal, then give a short presentation. Now one girl got up and started doing her presentation, having chosen the "workout" option. Her initial situps done in a minute was 70, push-ups to exhaustion was 30ish. And her initial time recorded for the mile run was 4:30. Side note, she was very clearly not an olympic-level athlete.

Now, she proceeded to describe her mile time's change in time over the course of the 6-week period. She said she looked up what a reasonable goal for her age and whatnot was, and found it was about 3 minutes. She said she was "disappointed" because she was only about to get down to 3:30.

If you don't understand what's so funny, the world record is 3:43 for men and 4:12 for women.

Speakers at TED all use the same pattern and once you see it... you'll notice all of em are basically the same. This guy explained it very well.

That's because they work. They even teach them at school.

They may all use the same tactic but a lot of them have some incredible ideas. The one about the guy with mental hygiene hit my girlfriend like a ton of bricks during the date part.

I listened to this at work, and I was so unproductive for the duration of the talk... It hit me like a ******* of bricks, and I'm glad you reminded me. I'm currently going to a psychologist because of that issue (just came back from a session actually), and I need to stop this...

As hilarious as this was, aren't TED talks supposed to be people on stage talking about some pressing matter or some inspiration stuff?
User avatar #35 to #3 - CAPSEDDIE ONLINE (10 hours ago) [-]
One of the ones with the most views is a guy talking about his flash-mob/public performance website that stages the famous "No pants subway ride" in NYC every year

Usually, but from the **** ton of em that I have seen over the years, I can assure you that this was more entertaining, useful and informative than some. If they need a slot filled for a local event, they are grabbing what they can get.

Ted talks are about experiences as well. It can go anywhere from stupid little stories to inspiring decisions and important life lessons.

That's what I was thinking, but then I remembered that Anita Sarkeesian did a Ted Talk.
So there credibility is down the drain at this point any way.

why the **** is this a ted talk
User avatar #24 to #15 - ronyx ONLINE (12 hours ago) [-]
Technology Engineering Dicks, it's just hipsters attending a conference where they give 5 mins or so to random people in the tech or engineering industry to give a illuminating life changing talk about random **** .

It's just a circle jerk, nothing ever comes out of it.

There was a visual novel (the cutsie anime style kind) about this if I remember correctly.
Re: Prince of Nigeria.
It's about someone falling in love with the prince from a scam email.
It's the same joke and very long winded way of telling it. Pretty good for a solid hour of comedy though.
