This is most likely to prevent neck breakage. Women!
User avatar #26 - cockassunited (05/13/2014) [-]
Because a garment tied around the neck is safe for sport amirite?
User avatar #28 to #26 - roninneko (05/13/2014) [-]
If you're suggesting it's a strangulation hazard, then so are shirt collars. And even so, soccer players aren't supposed to touch each other anyway!
#32 to #28 - anon (05/13/2014) [-]
A shirt collar doesn't have excess bits that can be accidentally pulled/torn, what they're wearing is basically a cloth noose around their neck. And yeah they aren't supposed to touch each other, you're not supposed to get into car wrecks either, but **** happens, the less things there are to go wrong the better.

Muslim girls playing sports usually wear a different type of hijab, that circles only the hair.
User avatar #43 to #36 - swagloon (05/13/2014) [-]
If that's so then they're not wearing them.
#39 - Hightower (05/13/2014) [-]
Yes, because you religion supersedes any and all other rules, and everyone must make considerations for you, because even though you knew the rules when you signed up, they should be changed to suit you.

Or, you could just follow the rules like everyone else, and not make a giant deal that you couldn't wear your headgear...
User avatar #37 - thechosentroll (05/13/2014) [-]
Coach: Could you please take that off? If it gets caught on something, you'll get hurt.
Team: OMG! Stop opressing her.

******* bitches don't know the first thing about health and safety regulations. That's like working at a gas station with a burning hat, because it's part of your religion.

stupid sand ****** . go blow up elsewhere

Tired of authority bending over backwards to appease some foreigner's ******* crazy customs. Take off the towel for your own safety or you don't get to play, simple as that. All the girls show up with towels? Guess they lose this game. We shouldn't allow religious attire to be immune to all authoritative actions, whether it's a soccer game or an airport (once went through security with my 80 year old grandmother who got frisked and pulled out of her chair by TSA who thoroughly inspected her ******* reading glasses to check for weapons while we watched a pack of turban-totin' arabs walk right through without so much as a "please remove your turban sir" from TSA because it's ******** religious immunity.

TLR: Kick her off the team if she doesn't want to follow the rules.

There are versions of the hijab that dont go all the way around the neck, just the hair. If that was being banned too i understand what these girls are doing.

or let her wear whatever she wants (its woman football, anyways), but make her sign papers that if her neck snaps its entirely her own responsibility and also Allah wills it.
#30 - anon (05/13/2014) [-]
... that would be cause it is a major safety concern, i would be so easy to snap you neck in one of those when playing sports
#42 - anon (05/13/2014) [-]
it's probably quite hazardous to play ports with a piece of cloth draped loosely around your head and neck
#45 to #42 - anon (05/27/2014) [-]
it's not that loose, it's just arranged to look that way, but fitted.
Anyway, "pieces of cloth draped loosely" on her body also describes a Jersey-T and shorts.
#46 to #45 - anon (05/27/2014) [-]
It's arguably less of a safety hazard than girls with long hair.

Why would you support somebody being oppressed like that? It's not solidarity, it's complacence.

After a certain amount of time wearing one, it may become something that they are more comfortable wearing than not. Even if they didn't do so voluntarily initially, they may decide later on that they prefer wearing it NOW even if they didn't THEN.

You know how you can wake up in the morning, forget something at home, and feel naked and vulnerable without it for the rest of the day? It may not have even been anything useful, just something you've always kept with you, like a watch or a chain or a bracelet. It can become the same thing.

I am against requiring women to wear head coverings from a young age, since it should be up to them from the beginning; however, if they decide down the road that they DO wish to wear it - for whatever reason - that is their call.
#2 to #1 - Lacuna (05/12/2014) [-]
It is her choice to wear one. There are lots of Muslim women who don't wear one because they don't want to.
#4 to #2 - usarmyexplain (05/12/2014) [-]
Yeah. Sure. "Choice"

Be disowned by your family and culture or wear a head wrap.

Still a choice
User avatar #8 to #7 - usarmyexplain (05/12/2014) [-]
Choices. Choices are not always free, and frequently neither choice is anything you want.
User avatar #9 to #8 - biscuitsunited (05/12/2014) [-]
But the point is, no matter how crappy the options, it's still a choice.
User avatar #10 to #9 - usarmyexplain (05/12/2014) [-]
If you are being forced to choose, it's not really a choice.
User avatar #11 to #10 - biscuitsunited (05/12/2014) [-]
No it is, just with unwanted consequences
#12 to #11 - usarmyexplain (05/12/2014) [-]
Ok. Lets go with that line of logic. If you are about to get raped, and you have the chance to kill yourself to avoid it, and you don't kill yourself, you chose to be raped. It then becomes your choice.

Some choices are unacceptable.

User avatar #13 to #12 - biscuitsunited (05/12/2014) [-]
Yep, but they are still choices.
You're not wrong, but the "You always have a choice" thing is technically correct unless you literaly, not figuratively, have no other choice. ,sure you may die or something unspeakable may have happened but you still choose that fate over a different one.
User avatar #14 to #13 - usarmyexplain (05/12/2014) [-]
I dont disagree with you, I just think there should be another word for ****** choices.
User avatar #15 to #14 - biscuitsunited (05/12/2014) [-]

weeeeellll considering this is a western country, there's a good chance that it actually is a choice.

also this happens with other religions and other things. say your family doesn't drink, and you do. or you tell your christian family you aren't christian. it's an awkward conversation to have, but i mean it can end fine.

Is it really that important to wear it. There could be some real reasons why you can't wear it on while playing. Also if you let one guy wear something while playing you would have to allow every kind of headgear.
