Taylor Swift didn't honor her agreement to do a song for the school of deaf kids.

However, she donated $10,000 to the school and got four companies to match her donation, so 4chan accidentally helped.

I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift, but she sounds really cool

They tried to be assholes and it backfired.

>tried to be assholes

by what, giving something to people? Even if they couldn't appreciate it, it's not like they burned the school down
User avatar #57 to #21 - penileburglar (08/04/2015) [-]
Oh, come on, it's not like they expected Taylor swift to actually go perform.

They weren't trying to be assholes. They were just ******* with a poll, which is a pretty common 4chan pastime.
#113 to #57 - anon (08/04/2015) [-]
But that's being an asshole...
User avatar #117 to #113 - penileburglar (08/04/2015) [-]
Not really--again, no one was actually expecting her to perform there and they could easily have re-done the contest, so it would have gone down as a no-harm-done prank at worst. No one gets hurt, maybe a couple of (rich) people get mildly inconvenienced, everyone has a good laugh at the irony of a school of dead children winning a concert and they even got a nice donation out of it as a bonus. That's doing a prank properly.

Hurting people and calling THAT a prank is 'being an asshole.'
User avatar #83 to #21 - WhereMehSammich (08/04/2015) [-]
It's a deaf school but most of them just have hearing problems and aren't completely deaf. They weren't ******* with the school anyways, they were ******* with the Swift and the poll. If anything they ****** with Swift so well they got her to blow 10k thanks to the poll to save face for not performing. She can't simply back out of the contest because it's a deaf school, she'd look like the biggest diva ever. I honestly wish she didn't donate because the headlines would've been hilarious.

They got ptibull to go the ticks armpit up in alaska and he actually went and performed at a walmart for a few hundred people.

Well, the thing was: it wasn't to hurt the kids, it was to **** with taylor swift.
So yes, it helped, but it helped a good part of that.

you realize that it probably wasnt 650000 individuals working together like "HIGH-FIVE YEAH TEAM!" circlejerk. It was probably a couple hundred (poor estimate, could be less than a hundred, could be way more I have no ******* clue) using bot voting programs, sitting at their computers, shoveling chips and Dew in their faceholes, and cheering "Heh. ye teem go" quietly to themselves.
makes it less impressive :[

The devil created bronies. In hell.
User avatar #29 to #14 - wraithguard (08/04/2015) [-]
I once saw the actual thread that started the whole thing, with the user whom initially watched the show and convinced other users to as well. I think it started as a small community there that would watch the show and debate how it was different from other kid's show in that it had more to offer in terms of quality. Then it eventually spread.
#125 to #29 - anon (08/04/2015) [-]
Wrong. the ACTUAL actual thread that started the whole thing began as an attempted raid ( **** rules 1&2 old /b/ is dead) when the new MLP was about to premier, a thread was made encouraging others to watch with everyone to bash what was clearly going to be an awful new-age kids show and have any lulz that were to be had. But then the show came on and before it was over the bash thread became probably the first brony thread. I think the first reply where the tone started to change was basically (heavy paraphrasing here) "dat character development doe. reminds me of cartoons from my childhood. we should watch this more regularly and show the company we support shows that have progression and good messages like this"
User avatar #35 to #29 - drenforcicle (08/04/2015) [-]
Correct me if Im wrong, but from what I saw it was an ironic thread that was funny for a bit , but then moot came in too and everyone thought they were serious. Doubt it, but hey, **** happens.
User avatar #36 to #35 - wraithguard (08/04/2015) [-]
Either way the fandom exploded across the internet, and that definitely wasn't ironic.
User avatar #34 to #29 - maxderwahnsinige (08/04/2015) [-]
that kinda sounds like the development of a tumor
User avatar #26 to #14 - civilizedwasteland (08/04/2015) [-]
created bronies and created neo femanazis. Just like Frankenstein they were done in by their own creations.
User avatar #40 to #26 - huntergriff ONLINE (08/04/2015) [-]
Wat.
#72 to #14 - brisineo (08/04/2015) [-]
Created the brony fandom pretty much by accident spotlighting the new show as the next cringe material but ending up liking it and making threads dedicated to it from then on
Polarized the opinion on ponies in general with definite like or hate after /b/ figured out that you could spam them to annoy people
Were the reason they spread wholesale ban that kicked them out to other sites including FJ after said spamming got out of control
Turned around and supported brony charities to spite people who hated everything about them and the show

People say that 4chan may have lost their old touch nowadays, but helping to propel an innocent yet slightly revolutionary kids show to something that engulfed millions in it's bright colors and yet still is the ultimate bait material that after five whole years it STILL can made so many people convulse in anger at the sight of it is a true masterpiece to behold. Both in the chaos and good it's brought. I also heard rumor that 4chan's infamous Global Rule 15 (the rule that states that all pony material has to be contained in /mlp/ or you will be banned) is going to be lifted in the next month or so due to redundancy. God have mercy on our sides when that day comes.
