The set-up was made to point out they're a gay couple, not just a 'oh by the way' part. They did this hoping people would make comments like that above so people would be talking about this commercial, and thus Campbell's. Yeah, maybe a few radical people would refuse to get their product, but most who even disagreed wouldn't be passionate enough to boycott, and libtards now go out of their way to buy it to 'support them'.
It's a cheap corporate move to cause conversation traffic around their products. It was a really poor quality commercial in the sense of not being really funny in any way, and was just trying to stoke a fire for their monetary gain.
