“Ask a Soviet engineer to design a pair of shoes and he’ll come up with something that looks like the boxes that the shoes came in; ask him to make something that will massacre Germans, and he turns into Thomas ******* Edison.”

The great and sad truth of what happens when your biggest research fund is war.

Rest in peace, Great Engineer.

The ak47 is such an easy to use gun, even a child could use it!

...oh wait

and?

that only says anything about the people willing to use child soldiers.

quicker turnaround on replacement
easier to conceal
literally millions of spares
below age for minimum wage
easy to insert your own worldview

seriously, why the **** does anyone send adults to war?

Well the creator feels he is enabling children to fight for those who would make them. Nothing wrong with it. He's probably a great guy.

No regrets? Not even one letter?

THIS is how you prove you are a good, intelligent human being; admitting your mistakes AND trying to correct or make up for them. This is unlike people today, especially politicians, who refuse to ever accept blame or admit wrongdoing for anything, even when it is obvious, and will instead attempt to skew facts, rationalize, or even flat out deny what they said or what happened.

I wouldn't say Kalashnikov regretted designing the rifle. He knew that some things were beyond his control. Ultimately the deaths of the people killed using the AK are not on his hands, but the people doing the killing.

and wasnt really 'his design' just an improvement on the german StG44

The AK does borrow a lot of elements of the StG44, yeah. It's still it's own rifle, though. Not a complete copy. If I remember correctly, the AK was a lot cheaper to manufacture, even the older versions that used a milled receiver instead of stamped steel.

Okay, did a little digging. The piston system was copied from the Stg44, but has a longer travel to overcome fouling and whatnot. The trigger is based on the M1 Garand. The Soviets originally tried to copy the stamped receiver of the Stg44, but switched over to milling it from a block of steel. They later got the hang of stamped receivers
Also, it appears the head designer for the prototype of the German assault rifles was taken by the Soviets at the end of the war.

Let me tell you about horrible inventions...

AK's a solid platform. Here's mine.

It sucks how AKs are becoming more expensive and ARs are becoming more affordable. You could buy an unconverted Saiga for $199 in 2009. Now it's triple the price. ._.

the only way to stop mankind especially america from taking every invention and ******* it up, is to stop inventing, so both ways dont work too well

Wilbur and Orville Wright thought that planes would end warfare, by giving every general the ability to watch the movements of the other armies. Didn't work out too well.

The man who invented the gattling gun wanted to make something that showed the horror of being able to kill people on a large scale in hopes that it would actually end warfare. It didn't quite go as planned.
