Not just that. It's the fact that he said the N word in his own home, in a private video, that was STOLEN from him and spread on the Internet. 8 years ago.
That's his own private business. You can't blame him for one of his personal items being stolen and then spread everywhere by a corrupt media site that was out to harm him.
And you can't blame a publicly traded company to let him go. They have a image to protect, and having self-proclaimed racists with sex tapes isn't good to have around your product when it is partially directed to children. Secondly, as any famous person with a hint of business sense would know is never leave any permanent trail that could ruin your career. If Hogan didn't want his sex tape leaked, the first thing to do would be not making a sex tape.
And I'm not saying it is his fault, but it's better for the company for them to let him go. People make it seem like the WWE overreacted but it's just business.
Yeah and also Vince McMahon used the word ***** as part of a slot a few years ago. And then he severs all ties with Hogan in a second . Go g and outraged at that too. He lost his hall of fame because someone leaked something he said in a private convo. 8 YEARS AGO
I find that people who say "He said he N word" are worse than people punishing others for saying it like in this whole case. ******* say it, ****** , if you don't people are gonna keep thinking its a horrible horrible word that is never to be said and are gonna keep giving out retarded punishments as this one.
"I mean, I don’t have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever."
and
"I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f*ck some n*gger, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n*gger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player!
"I guess we’re all a little racist. ******* n*gger."
....the context of how its said effects it greatly.
He didn't just say ****** , he was being pretty racist, and even though it was a long time ago, WWE is privately owned and can make up it's rules. The real blame is on Gawker, who most likely leaked the transcript from a closed deposition, but hey, he gets 100 million dollars if it's true, I don't think he's going to lose any sleep for it.
its like saying ****** under your breath in, your own home, in a private room, someone records it, then 10 years later blackmailed you when you become successful, its ********
Now I'm not defending the desicion of the WWE, but he was using the N word to say some pretty racist **** . I don't think people here got the whole story.
Should he have gotten fired for somerthing he said 9 years ago? Eh, what he said was pretty bad.
Should they have deleted his records/ merchandise? Absolutely ******* not, Hulk Hogan is an icon.
**but he was using the N word to say some pretty racist **** .'' ****** ! Now i'm a racist.
Rapist! Now i'm a rapist
I hate idiots! Now i'm a abelist or whatever tumblr calls it.
OK, so clearly you didn't do any resarch on this, and you're just taking what people on FJ say is true. Here's what he said:
"I mean, I don’t have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever."
and
"I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f*ck some n*gger, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n*gger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player!
"I guess we’re all a little racist. ******* n*gger."
I still don't think Gawker was right in outing him, he said it in his own house nobody needed to know and to me, the way they obtained that information sounds hella illegal.
It's not right what he said, no, but the way it all got out to people is also wrong.
doesnt mean he didnt do it? the evidence is clearly there...and while the sex tape stealing thing is debatable, the contents of which are pretty open now.
we would have to watch it ourselves to come to a conclusion no? personally i have nerver seen it so i cant tell where and how he said it....Also, it may have taken sometime for the right people for this situation to have seen it.
like gawker, who he is suing, I mean, I'm just saying, it's a bit funny that out of all times, it's only NOW, when he is suing them. that it became "famous"
the video was made 8 years ago, but it was circulated by gawker 3 years ago...and as far as i can tell it was removed from gawker pending litigation. That being said there wasnt a huge window for the general public to view it, and even then it may have taken reps from WWE sometime to come across the footage. Its strange since the Gawker review makes no mention of the ****** usage Hogan used, because of that i assume that the full video was not easily accesable. Its odd that it took some time for WWE to act, but it could be so that the WWE was already in the works to do this for some time, hid it...and waited until it became national news and did it as a PR move.
I haven't actually seen/heard the clip/transcript or whatever, but from your quotes it seems like he's talking **** about one specific person who wronged him in some way possibly ****** his girlfriend from the "if she was going to **** some ****** " thing , and in that case it makes sense to use the words you think would hurt that person most to describe them. I'm not saying it's right, but it's understandable, and if that's the case then it's a big overreaction to fire him.
If I'm completely wrong about context here feel free to disregard this comment.
Well, on a personal level I think that the whole ****** thing is complete ******** .
If it was sucha racist word which reminds black people of slavery they shouldn't ude it themselves.
And another thing that makes this even more retarded it the fact that a black person call yell ****** , use ****** in rap songs, and can say it in general. Which is biased, it's just a word, and if not said with any ill will I don't think people should be so ******* offended by it.
it should be pretty obvious to everyone by now that it's not the word ****** that black people find offensive, its white people using the word ****** that black people find offensive.
What does this prove? Blacks can say the N word, whites can't. Are you surprised? Thank you for pointing out the smallest handful of opposing examples I've ever seen in my life, but you can't say these few instances represent the entire population.
I don't think so, his job is 100% to be a public figure, which means you have to be popular in order to be worth anything as an employee
Its impossible to tell the history of the wwe without hulk hogan & the wwe knows this, it must have been a last resort move because the wwe is theatre, its money comes from the shows and stories it presents, they wouldn't compromise the source of all their revenue to settle some grudge
Are you stupid? It happened 8 years ago, but the ********* about it is being forcefully created just now. No one cares about an 8 years old sex tape, but for some reason now is the time to make it a big deal. Just as if somebody was trying to reheat an old steak, get the idea?
this is my thoughts, I mean anyone who knows about some of the things he has done are a sign he's just not a good person and sounds like a pain to work with, for the longest time HE was the only one allowed to have the title, and only relinquished it for storylines where he'd get it back at the end of the next season, he's a creep who married a girl who looks exactly like his daughter and clearly acts like he has some kind of non-paternal feelings for her. and he probably has had drug issues in the past and/or present considering he's a wrestler from an era where they ALL did drugs. I believe it's probable THOSE are what cost him his job more than him saying " ****** " that's just a thing they said to avoid revealing they've been working with such a hack the whole time
what really grind my gears is that black people are generally against white's using the word ****** . but they say it all the time in pop culture basically lessening the impact of the word, in addition to fact that people sing along to songs, so people say the **** out of there and feels more normal.
also. white people invented the word...so dont ******* tell me "that's our word" no. that's slave owners word. if you really want to distance yourself from slavery and things like that. then why is that the most common word out of your mouth.
Okay, so if you went and read about what he said you would know that he didn't just offhand drop the N word. I'm black, I don't care if someone white offhand drops the N word. But in the tape, his daughter slept with a black man, and he tries to make his point by telling her how sleeping with n****** is bad. This is totally unacceptable. And while it is free speech, he is bringing WWE bad publicity and was justly fired in my opinion.
well that is pretty ****** up then. The issue seems to be misrepresented. he's in trouble for being incredibly racist. saying the N word was just a small part of it. i don't really care enough about hulk hogan to look into it, just kinda hit a nerve i've been thinking about i guess.
If you run around calling black people: Filthy ******* . Then there is a reason for people to be upset.
Simply saying ****** without any (ill) intention behind it shouldn't be seen like the most racist thing someone could ever do.
And on that note: There are far to many people that get upset when people use a word that originally (and still) means black.
This type of thing has been happening for a long time. Jimmy "The Greek" got fired in 1988 for making some comments that pretty much could only be considered complimentary to blacks. It REALLY stifles conversation about race, and I think that is EXACTLY what the newsmedia would like to happen, in order to inflame tension and sew discord, that we might be more easily controlled. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKtIqXMpHcY
