**battletechmech used "*roll picture*"** **battletechmech rolled image**This picture isn't true at all, no texan would have a clear drink inside their bottle, vodka is for russian commies and water is for hippies, there needs to be coke (if it's before 12 or if you're under 21) or whiskey.
I live in Arlington, a city between Fort Worth and Dallas. For those who don't know, it's where the Dallas Cowboys' Stadium is. Now AT&T Stadium, but **** it. Also have not much of a clue regarding other cities.
I've actually had passing thoughts of moving to japan or at the very least, to work for a Japanese company. Not for some idealistic "anime n cute asians!" goal, but because the tech industry is booming and will continue to boom in the future, and, as a student of computer science, I want in on that honey pot.
I've started learning Japanese for that very reason. Even if I don't go to Japan it would make me more appealing to large multinational computer and software corporations.
I work for a multinational computer and software corporation. For many years, a Japanese company was the main customer (as in the " **************************** " kind of customer) of our business unit. Nobody in my company (including the top project managers) spoke any Japanese - except for the Japanese marketing guys. Japanese language skills were never any consideration in hiring decisions.
If you want to learn Japanese for fun, go for it, but the impact on your employment chances is absolutely zero.
working conditions are **** in Japan, long shifts and very short holidays. also even if you could have holidays , people will expect that you perform your duty.
also Japan has huge economical problems. They had their time in the 80s and 90s.
Wanted to move there after I first discovered anime for various weaboo reasons.
Years after I lost interest, it's renewed for mostly the same reason as you - as a programmer self taught and proficient and cryptologist self teaching , i can think of worse places to go.
And you think that honey pot for computer scientists is in Japan? No, sorry, it still is in Silicon Valley. The tech industry in Japan has been and still is failing.
If you want to get low pay for extremely long hours (I am talking at least 9am-10pm work days and going to the bar with your boss and colleagues afterwards), then go to Japan. But you have to basically go there right from the start, because promotions in Japan are usually given out based on company seniority. In "conservative" Japanese companies, if you join a department, you will always start at the bottom, even if you have 10 years of work experience.
Also, if you don't speak perfect Japanese (including being able to read and write Japanese), you are out of luck, because every conversation, every meeting, every email and every design document will be in Japanese.
Source: My company had a major Japanese tech company as customer for many years. Worked on-site there for months. Oh, and my wife is Japanese.
See I've had passing thoughts about moving to Japan too, not for the idealistic "anime n cute asians" reason but also not for the smart career based reason either, I just want to go experience the nature there.
They really are a bit more encompassing than the typical image an American has of a convenience store, though. A 7-11 in Japan typically has more stuff than an American 7-11.
There is just something special about doing stuff like that. Dunno why, but it is fun.
Plus, they have anime/manga specials every now and then. Fun stuff. Got some little One Piece stuff from a Lawson while I was in Japan.
By the way, I'm going to be visiting Japan in a month or two, staying for about four weeks. I enjoyed some of the beautiful hiking areas last time I was in Japan. Mt. Takao, Nikko, and a few others. You happen to know any nice places for hiking or checking out nice temples/shrines in the general Tokyo area? Don't mind going a ways out, just don't want to end up across the country.
