Sociopaths generally have trouble with right and wrong and will sometimes do something, maybe knowing it's wrong but not understanding why or not knowing it is wrong at all. This can be seen with some serial killers who target certain people they believe the world would be better without, quite often prostitutes, and convince themselves that they are actually doing some good despite it being illegal. Obviously this is not the case with all serial killers, but some of them truly believe what they do/did is the right thing to do.

Yelling back is just as pointless as holding back thinking that they will stop as a result. They know that they hit people in the weak spot and get feedback on that. Even if they wouldn't get their feedback, they wouldn't just stop right away if at all. Just like a bully won't stop just because you act like you ignore him. They know better than that. They do it no matter whether you yourself will also yell back. So rather than not trying to yell back its better to not let it affect you too much personally. Its better to talk back rather than yelling back though. And if people want to others on their own side they can do that, they won't add fuel to the fire as long as they do it properly. Pretty much noone neutral would see MundaneMatt or Sargon, given that they listen long enough, as harassers or what these people would like them to be seen as. While yelling back is pointless i don't think talking back is. It's obvious that many of these people are crazy and if you manage to get them -through rational discussion- to the point to out themselves as crazy towards their then hopefully ex-followers you might make these people question a bit more of the hateful message that they got from there to begin with. They won't completly abandon it but maybe they turn a little bit more moderate. And while its very unlikely that such a mindset causes macroscopic impact people in positions of little power, parents, teachers, or everyone who considers their time well spent when they harass people based on one of their many reasons to hate people it still causes harm to alot of people. It will always be there and we can't fight it but we can at least reduce the impact by trying to talk the ones we can into sense back again.

paddypancake (10/03/2015) [-] Well i want to clarify that i don't think people are obliged to fight them, the first thing i said was no matter what the individuals do, whether its a bit more or less resistance for SJW or however you wish to call them, they will keep doing what they do either way. I don't think, at least within the more conviced circles, that we can affect anyone to make a 180° turn but i think if we give them an enemey to argue against we can make them speak out their opinions more. Alot of them are crazy, hostile and hateful. If we properly challenge their views we might make one or two of them move a step too far to keep their own support and public image. When Sarkeesian was at the colbert report she didn't deny that videogames don't make people violent. Now she does. As these people grow increasingly confident in their support within their group they will push more and more of their borderline viewpoints and at some point loose their support again. When these people shout at the straight white cis male who has a good job they are united. The moment we challenge them to a discussion and to unfold their entire viewpoints we get a great chance to amplify the destruction of the unity of these self perceived minorities of power. And the trolls will be there no matter what. It is better to have a few trolls and lots of reasonable people who argue rather than having a few trolls only. These people like having their viewpoints reinforced by having enemies and friends. There are the good guys and the bad guys. When you join in and neither hostile nor friendly towards them while still challenging their views at least a part of them have to admit that the world isn't entirely black and white. At least thats how i see it. Your idea of ignoring them into nonexistance would make sense if most of the people who are engaged in these sort of subjects would stop. But by now there is a point of no return, there are enough trolls and similar people who won't stop to keep this alive. Best way to destroy it is to let it kill itself. Just being the good guy who walks away won't make others walk away either. Letting air out of a baloon is a good way to have it decrease in size but when that thing is big enough you might just pump more into it until it bursts.

Everyone who stops listening to them, watching them, associating with them is less ad revenue, less public attention, less income. Though I think rather than trying to not have their support increase we have to reduce it. Not financially, what i mean is their mindset. There is a bigger problem with that mindset than just Social Justice Warriors. There are lots of people who see even small events in a societal context. "Beating up white people is fine because they did much more to my race than mine did to them". "Discriminating against men is impossible because they have power in our society". Basically an "us versus them mentality". These mindsets are bigger than just the people who identify as SJW. They cause more trouble than SJW. Every single one of them that we turn more moderate is one that might affect the other ones he/she knows. Mindsets are a slippery slope. People simply affect each other. Thats why we have as cruel things as genocides and why people are fine with killing for their religion. But whenever someone does a bad deed towards a "class enemey" (now using commie language, its not a too different phenomenon after all) they might question their own righteousness and other people choose or don't choose to support it. I am not talking about killing or similar crimes. Someone who does these sorts of things doesn't just get convinced when their favourite youtuber is suddenly unpopular. What i mean are teachers who teach that "toxic masculinity has to be eradicated". Parents that treat their children badly because they are male. People who try to get others fired. When a stranger tells them that they are wrong they don't care. But when their own friends who used to share these mindsets see their friends as "too extreme", they might get affected. When their role models get too extreme for these friends, they might also start questioning other people whoose actions they approved of earlier. No matter what one does the effect is probably little and one might go either way i suppose and in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. When these things get to one personally i strongly recommend just trying to ignore the entire thing. But trying to reduce this mindset, even to a little extent is a good thing to do. I don't think people grabbing power to systematically fight, discriminate against or in any other way cause disadvantages for the "class enemies" is going to happen to a great extent. Some affirmative action here and there, but nothing big. Still, individuals will get affected in their everyday life and everything we can do to stop this witch hunt culture is a good start.

It's kinda ironic how our success and our excesses have made us soft and weak. And nobody cares.
A few generations back they fought WWII then came home and started raising families. There was hardly a complaint, they just did it.
And here we are today, where we are incapable of handling people saying mean things to us on the internet. I don't even know if it'd be possible for us to fight the wars our ancestors fought not too long ago.
