No rage here, but I am forced to express concern. How in the hell are there people that actually think like this?

Come to think of it, with the overuse of the term 'cis', it's become offensive. Furthermore, it isn't even gender related, and no matter how many times people say it, it'll be wrong. Cis does not mean what they think it means.

Cis: adj. chemistry: denoting or relating to a molecular structure in which two particular atoms or groups lie on the same side of a given plane in the molecule, in particular denoting an isomer in which substituents at opposite ends of a carbon–carbon double bond are on the same side of the bond.

Now you see why I get offended sometimes. Not "triggered" mind you, just mildly bothered by the usage.

Yes, it also has a chemistry definition. As does trans. Again they're opposites.

Just because you don't agree with their movement doesn't mean you should talk out of your ass on the subject of etymology.

First, to quote Abby Sciuto, "All words are made up words." That's what etymology is about, looking at what words were made up when, by who, and why.
Second, the Latin root "cis" is the opposite of the latin root "trans," this was what was applied to the word gender, making cisgender, which gets shortened to cis on tumblr.
Third, the term was created by a scientist who studies sex and gender in 1991, and has slowly disseminated into mainstream vocabulary since, largely spurred on by sjws on tumblr.

My definition of a made up word is a word that is created without reason or need. Cis, in regards to sexuality, is a made up word, because we already have (multiple) words for that

Oh no, somebody quoted a fictional character in a light-hearted discussion. End of the world.

It's a concise word that unambiguously defines what you mean, and was originally adopted and embraced by the LGBT community to avoid the negative connotations behind calling someone "non-trans" or "normal." To avoid that implication of otherness for trans people. Now, SJWs have tainted the word by basically making it little more than a slur with how they use it. But, it was originally created and adopted for almost exactly the opposite reason.

See, it's exactly the negative connotation of "not normal" that was evident in your post that the word cisgender was created to avoid. Yes, they are different from the majority. However, different=/=bad. It's still managed to end up with negative connotations, though. This word was created to dissociate from those connotations. That's it's reason to exist. If, you're like the majority of this site, and consider transgenderism a mental illness, then of course this would seem purposeless to you. But, it was created and introduced into vocabulary with a very specific intent.

Sure, different doesn't mean you're bad...but being trans never was bad. The point was, a trans person is the minority, hence, they're not normal. Just because "Not normal" has a negative connotation, it doesn't mean being trans is necessarily bad.

We should be working on making "Not normal" seem less negative, as opposed to creating new words to use as slurs

No you see, sjws are for some reason ignorant to the fact that transgender is a mental disorder. Because of this, they set them aside as another whole group of people. This caused them to make up a word to describe everyone else, cisnormative, shortened to cis
Now, of course this is ridiculous, as trans are not some special group, theyre just people with a disorder, so making up a word to describe everyone else is silly. For example, you wouldn't come up with a word to describe everyone who doesn't have schizophrenia, it's just schizoids and normal people. But again of course, sjws don't understand what normal and have perverted its meaning into something offensive

I agree with tumbler in that gender, as we use it in society in today, is a social construct/made up. Yet somehow tumblerfags validate being trans and trans not being someone with a disorder. Being a "man trapped in a woman's body" means that you were born with the wrong made up role. Gender is really just a descriptor, I understand if someone doesn't want to be held to the standards of male or female not identify as a gender but saying trans to me is the same as saying "i was born with the wrong eye color, I'm trans brown eyes"
