Wouldn't it be cool if one of the traits that came with suicidal feelings was an urge to just want to save lives that wanted living? Like, "suicide" didn't mean you tried to meaninglessly kill yourself .. it just meant you were more than willing to risk yourself to save someone else.

Random thought..
User avatar #9 to #2 - thegoblingamer ONLINE (07/28/2015) [-]
Funny you say that, but I've actually dreamed of sacrificing myself to save someone else.
I had suicidal depression for a long time, still do just a LOT more under control, but I convinced myself that I can't just take my own life like that. It'd be a waste. But if I could die in the process of saving someone, I totally would.

I feel ya man.. For what it's worth, hope the good days outnumber the bad for ya these days.
User avatar #11 to #10 - thegoblingamer ONLINE (07/28/2015) [-]
Thankya. It's getting a lot better. Shed my old "friends", feel a lot more confident and genuinely happy.
User avatar #12 to #11 - hashtronaut (07/28/2015) [-]
thats good man, environment change definitely helps a lot of times.

I laugh at myself sometimes because I used to be all ready to give up in my early/mid teens and now at 26 i call that **** the good ol days. For me though, it was making music.. that just gave me something to do with my day all those years back while I was drinking and smoking and **** . I had a reason to roll out of bed every day.

Now, I mean.. I still drink and smoke and make music but that's because it's what makes me happy. Back home nearly all my old friends either went through serious addictions like heroin or are still in them TRYING to find that happiness
User avatar #17 to #12 - thegoblingamer ONLINE (07/28/2015) [-]
Oh yea, I feel ya. My friends didn't do that **** , they were just horrible to me, but I stuck with them because I thought it was my only choice. Honestly it was an emotionally abusive relationship. I was like an abused spouse who didn't leave because they thought it was the best it was gonna be.
I stayed away from anything addicting for fear that I'd get caught up in it and use that to reach happiness, which I knew to be destructive but inviting.
User avatar #19 to #17 - hashtronaut (07/28/2015) [-]
see, i had those kind of friends.. as well as ones only around when it benefited themselves, AND real friends whom I'm still close to as I can be through facebook lol but, a few years back I moved from CO to KS to take care of family so.. even the good friends had to get left behind in a sense. But, it also got the toxic ones out of my life as well.

I've never really been suicidal, but other than that, same.
#163 to #9 - hurzg (07/29/2015) [-]
I'm having depression times from time to time in the last three years. I always had school related-personality related depressions and for the first time in my life I've had a crush I opened up to (I'm 22). She rejected in a very polite way but I now feel really bad but nowhere close to suicidal. How did your depression days go? Could you accept it at some point and did your daily work no matter what?
User avatar #192 to #163 - thegoblingamer ONLINE (08/06/2015) [-]
We all remember Robin William's death. Here's a man that had a lot to live for, but he didn't. His depression got the better of him.
When that happened, it opened up my eyes to me never "curing" my depression, just getting better at coping with it.
Just don't become cold to feelings like I did. Be glad you HAVE feelings for this girl because I haven't felt that in years. I let a broken heart get the better of me and now I wish I had a girl that I cared about.
I'm steadily improving though . I have friends now that I'm starting to care for and it's good to have emotions back.
My depression days were... well... depressing. I accepted that I have it because it helps put things in more of a perspective. I don't use it as a crutch and I'm very open about it with others (depression + a silent host = a dead host) and then they open up to me about their problems. I'm at the point where depression is just part of me, but it doesn't define who I am. I don't let it do that.

Become an organ donor, have a healthy life, then choose again. You could save many lives or eventually get out of the bad mind set and live a long and full life to still save a lot of people when you finally die

well actually there are different types of suicide. 4 actually. the suicide you're talking about is called altruistic suicide. which basically means you're committing suicide for the benefit of others. there's also egoistic, anomic, and fatalistic suicide. i like sociology.
#54 to #2 - scozie (07/28/2015) [-]
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if a large amount of suicides were due to people believing that killing themselves would solve problems for other people - maybe even saving their lives.
#55 to #2 - rainwaterenema (07/28/2015) [-]
That exists, it's actually a kind of anxiety/depression. Basically you feel everyone else is worth more than you, and chemicals related to compassion and other empathy-related emotions are much higher than average.

In response to the human and dogs post, whenever I cry my dog almost comes instantly to me and tries to cheer me up by giving me kisses and cuddling up in my arms
Even when he's on the other side of the house he can hear me
He's one of my best friends in the world

WHY ARE WE NOT FUNDING THIS???

The US already pays farmers not to grow crops, why can't it pay a little more and require them to grow this? The farmers can then turn it into fertilizer and/or animal feed then sell that, making even more money. What is the downside? It also looks soft as **** so the kids can go out and play in it or whatever
User avatar #6 to #4 - lean (07/28/2015) [-]
it grows on water/swampland, and doesn't survive the winter. Also, if you plant a square foot in ideal conditions a month later you will have 420,000 square feet, taking over 90% of the other plant life.
