I apologize, but I was taught that the Norwegian Å was pronounced like the English word "Awe", hence the joke.

This is the website that I was given to start learning how to pronounce Norwegian letters. Å doesn't sound exactly like "Awe" but its close and that's what I wrote down to help me remember it because I'm a native English speaker.
