Oh my god. People who call black people "coloured" really cheese me off.

They see it as if it's not offensive, but actually you're generalising all people with any darker or alternative skin colour when you call them that.

It's almost like calling all "white people" normal and all other people with different shades of skin aliens.

Nothing more patronising than being told "you're coloured".

Everyone thinks I am Serbian.
I am actually a Hungarian/Albanian/Croatian mix.

On a side note, has anyone seen how ****** up Subotica got? it was so beautiful in my folk's pictures, now it looks like Kelowna.
And they have taxi donkeys.

Same here, it's a little annoying hearing the term "African-American"...I was born in Texas...

whenever others talk about black people i think they talk about those listening to metal/goth music and wearing black.
it is so confusing.

As a latino, I THINK its unfair to call african people "african" because they are britts/american/nordic/aussies/whatever like anyone in those contries, and they dont live in continental Africa. I dont understand why they dont happily accept being called black , nor why they got mad when called ****** if they call themselves so

Okay, so the politically correct term here is African-American.

What is it in England? I lived there for three years and I'm quite surprised that I don't know.
#6 to #5 - John Cena (02/15/2014) [-]
Black.
We aren't quite as focused on nationality or origins as America.
The only racial problems there's been in the last few years are with all the immigrants we've been getting from the middle east and northern africa that turned out to be bad apples. Even then, it's only sparked anti-muslim problems not racial problems.
#9 to #5 - whyunofeellucky (02/15/2014) [-]

I'm guessing because we don't have the same race problems as americawe never developed the need for massively over PC words like African-American in conversation it's fine to say just use black over here, but in official documents and forms the option is black British when referring to ethnicity

Black. Never met a black person who doesn't mind being called black, they flip out if you call them coloured though.

Had a good laugh at the "they flip if you call em coloured" bit.
Personal experience I take it?

Yes. Was at a debate at my college and it just happened to be a debate about race and I asked this guy in the picture what I should call him, "can I call you coloured or black" "Do I look like a ******* rainbow" was his response. First black player to ever play for Sunderland, also happens to be a cunt and played for my rival team. Roly Gregoire.
User avatar #38 to #13 - schmuxy (02/15/2014) [-]
makes sense really. "Black" is a descriptor, "Coloured" has more connotations of "different"
