Depends on your definition of "efficient".
You can see the apple lose a dramatic amount of of actual fruit.
If you can design a rig that moves across the surface of the apple at a specific pace and applies the same amount of pressure at all times, and that pressure is tuned to cut as little actual fruit off then I'd call it efficient.
Just take the crank off of this thing and clap the drill over the rod it and now that's efficient!
