Most pizza delivery drivers aren't allowed to carry more than $20 on them for change.
Most pizza places have that written on their pizza boxes.

You look pretty ******* ignorant if you try to hand one of us a $100 bill, considering how often we throw that information at you.

People come to the dollar store I work at right when it opens at 8am and get $1 worth of ****, then act pissed when I say I can't break the $100. We literally just opened. We only have 5's and 1's. I was a front of house worker at pizza ranch and this delivery guy came storming in and clocked out and said 'I'm going to get fired.'
He proceeded to inform me that he went to deliver a couple large pizzas to a house a mile out of town and was about ten or so minutes late because he had multiple deliveries and that house was as far as we delivered. The guy at the door took the pizza and bitched about it being late, and the delivery guy offered to give him a discount. The customer threw the pizza at him, said he was calling his boss, and slammed the door saying he already ordered elsewhere and then called pizza ranch and tried to get him fired.
The delivery guy proceeded to force the large pizzas into his mailbox before driving off.

I live in Denmark, and we have a totally different culture than american regarding tips(well, the entire EU does).
Delivery guys here gets an actual salary, and gets their transport fees covered.
Tipping is essentially just paying extra for the pizza.

What would you say is a good tip? Cause I like to be nice to my delivery guys without making my order 50% more expensive. Some say it depends on the price of the order, but the difference between carrying 1 and 3 pizzas doesn't seem like it would matter.

15-20 percent of the order is good. If it's raining or snowing or just ****** out throw an extra buck or two in. Tipping in cash is better too, but adding it to the credit card is also OK my personal preference is cash. Also if it's dark or getting dark out turn on ALL of your goddamn exterior lights.

I see what youre saying, first off, no carrying 1-3 pizzas at once isnt a big difference. but one thing I hate is having to carry multiple fountain drinks, or 2 liters along with the pizza. it makes it twice as hard. and super easy to forget the drinks. most orders are around 20$ on average. (plus we only deliver within 5 miles) 2-3$ is basically just like meh. 4-5$ is a solid tip, and something Id take all day long and make good money. Anything above that is awesome, and I really appreciate even more. Sometimes people get 50$ worth of food and still only tip 2$ or so. which percentage wise sucks, but its an average tip for most deliveries. If I got 4-5$ for every delivery I made, Id be a happier person. Sorry that was so long man.

It's alright. Yeah $5 is what I usually try to tip, since it's between the lines of "cheapskate" and "moneybags," because I'm not really either of those. Also, I never order drinks with the pizza, just stuff that comes in stackable boxes. Soda costs like 3x as much if you order it with the pizza, and I just KNOW it's a pain in the ass to carry those with a bunch of other stuff.

haha sure, Ill share some. Theres a ****** little hotel right outside of town that a lot of meth heads stay at. long story short, I took the phone call, and they giggled and laughed for the first 5 minutes without saying a word. They requested Cups with ice, and no liquid. (obviously for alcohol.) and nothing else. They didnt even want food. I made em order at least a pizza, and when I got there they were obviously extremely ****** up. They just kept yelling "You saved the day man youre a hero!" and gave me a 50 and took their cups and medium pizza and I just drove off laughing. theres plenty more random **** like that I could tell. TIP FOR ALL PIZAA DELIVERY DRIVERS -
Keep track of your takings, and your tips. Keep all the copies of the receipts. Some managers think it is good practice to make you think you are doing a poor job despite your effort. They will try to screw you over on your tips at the end of the night, especially.if they use tips as a measure of your performance.

A lot of the time now, customers pay with a card and write their tip on the receipt which gets counted as taxable income. At least where I work at the end of your shift you hand over all of your receipts from that night to a manager, they enter in the data and pay you your compensation per delivery plus what you earned from the taxed tips. Though cash tips are completely yours to keep.

You know what's awesome? When you have a really ****** job but a really cool supervisor who sticks for you when customers come to bitch.

When I first got my licence I worked at this little place called Franky's. Not a huge place but it was pretty well known around town and every weekend it was packed. I worked as a delivery boy and bused tables when we didn't have many orders. Most people were alright, sometimes I would deliver to a dick who yelled at me when I was late but no harm was really done with those people. Maybe my experiance was better than others but I no "problem customers". Except for one.

There was one woman who lived in the rich part of town who hated everyone at Franky's. Hated the cooks, hated the management, hated the bus boys, but especially hated delivery boys. Whenever she would bring her family in (why she continued to eat there I have no clue) her kids would run around and make a complete mess of everything. She thought it was perfectly okay for her nine year old to just walk into the kitchen and take things like spatulas and aprons, once our fry cook burned the **** out of his hand trying to step around her kid and then she laughed when we told her to get out. We banned her from coming back into the restaurant but she still ordered for delivery once a week and I was always the one who brought it to her. Most of the time it was just a very hostile and awkward situation, I would show up at her door, she would say I was late, would try to get a discount on her order, I would tell her to go talk to my manager, she would pay me (no tip, mind you) and I would go to the next house on my list. But there was one time when she was especially bitch-y and I will forever remember this.

Continued in a reply.

It was Superbowl Sunday and we were completely swamped with orders, as would be expected. We had extra cooks in the kitchen, extra order-takers, extra everything except delivery boys. So me and two other guys were rushing around town trying to get as many stops as we could in as little time as possible. I get through three or four and look at my list to see where the next stop is only to see that it's at this woman's house. We also got a little time stamp to see when everyone ordered so we could plan them out and not be too late; she ordered about 45 minutes ago. I pull into her driveway (you could tell she was having a party), grab four giant pizzas from the back with her name on them and ring the bell. She answers and proceeded to chew me out.

"WHAT TOOK SO LONG! WE HAVE HUNGRY PEOPLE IN HERE! I ORDERED AN HOUR AGO! I'M NOT PAYING FOR THESE!" and I give her my normal response to talk to the manager. She is still not satisfied and refuses to pay. I tell her that's fine and walk back to my car but about have way down the side walk she stops me. "WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING! YOU ARE GOING TO COME BACK TO THE RESTAURANT AND TALK TO THE BOSS WITH ME!" I currently have ten other pizzas in the car waiting to be taken to other people who actually treat me with respect so it's easy to say I'm a little peeved. I call up my manager and tell him the situation, from the other line I hear -in the most smug voice he could muster- "Alright, bring her in."

She gets into her car and follows me back to the pizza place which is completely packed with people watching the game forcing her to park in another parking lot. On the way inside she it still bitching at me about how far she has to walk and how she should make me pay for her new shoes because they are now dirty. We both enter and there is my boss, leaning against the counter with every member of the staff behind him staring at both of us.

Concluded in a reply.

You should know something about my boss, he was a 6'5 middle aged Italian man who funded this restaurant with money he made from boxing championships. He is not a person you want to **** with. His wife also ran it with him and did most of the finance, pretty cool woman unless she lost her temper in which case she became your worst nightmare. We also had a convicted felon working the grill, a former cop on register, and one of our fry cooks had a second job as a bouncer for a bar down the street. These are the kind of people you employ when you have a business in Chicago. All of them are staring daggers at this woman. However, she was not deterred and began to yell at everyone.

"YOUR DELIVERY BOY GAVE ME MY PIZZA LATE AND COLD! I DEMAND HE BE FIRED!"
"No." My boss replied.
"IF YOU DON'T LAY HIM OFF RIGHT NOW I WILL NEVER COME BACK!"
"Okay."
She was kind of stunned right now but before she could fire off another jab at me the fry cook comes to the rescue.
"Lady, you have been a thorn in the side of everyone here for the past year and that is the nicest thing I can ever about you. But, if you'd like, we can all speak our minds and say everything that we've been bottling up." The boss's wife just yelled out the word "CUNT!" and this woman went wife as a sheet. She left, we charged those pizzas to her credit card that we had on file and my next four customers got a free pie with their order. My boss then called every pizza place within five miles and asked for her to be blacklisted, they happily obliged since apparently she was an awful customer to them too.

It is really awesome when your boss is on your side.

I make it a point to be cool with the pizza guy/chick they have to meet tons of ****** people so I try to be a bro....even though I offered to let the guy hit the bong once. I thought it was funny. He was just scared.

Worked as a driver in high school, got an order to go across town, small town so I didn't mind. The guy literally asked me to stop by the movie theater and pick up some popcorn. I refused to deliver the order after about 20 minutes of explaining to the man that I could not, due to the rules of this place, stop and buy him something from another location.

I once tipped a delivery guy $20 because he picked up some milk for me on the way to my house.

I've had people try and get me to go through a drive through and get them other food when they ordered the bare minimum from us, or pick them up tums or heart burn medicine and it's always a big old nope. I don't get paid to run errands for you and I'm not going to pay out of my pocket for **** you want. If it's not busy and you tip more than generously some places will consider it but it's usually a standing no unless the manager tells them it's OK.

I can most definitely confirm this. I worked at Dominos for about 6 months, and we always had this repeat customer that asked us to deliver the pizza, she would give us money, and ask us to pick her up a carton of cigarettes.

Needless to say we refused to deliver to her again.

As a pizza delivery diriver, I can confirm all of these.

I'm going to start carrying dog mace. I nearly got attacked last night. I had to call the guy to get him to call off his LOOSE dogs. I was trapped in my car. And I still didn't get tipped.
