Conservatives are mostly people who are for less government directly in peoples lives and maintaining the current status

However the conservative party also attracts crazy religious fundamentalists, corrupt rich people, and people who like to discriminate. This is because as we continue to mature as a nation and the world as a whole we continue to recognize things that are wrong with the current system. This is a natural occurrence and most members of the party are fine with changing some things as needed but for those who like the current flaws because they benefit from them again, religious nutjobs, rich people, and bigots the conservative side is the most helpful.
and the liberal party attracts largely the opposite, SJW's, socialists, and people who want to push a specific agenda to benefit them. This is because liberals are always looking to change problems as soon as they appear and can sometimes push things that seem like tolerance that are in fact just taking away rights in their eagerness to help. Most liberals understand this and try to consider the consequences of a change but it is attractive to those who want abrupt and massive change again SJW's, socialists, and others pushing agendas
Both sides are crazy, it's just that the liberal crazies are doing the most damage at the moment while the conservative ones are mostly just reactive rather than proactive and it has been this way for a while. It used to be the other way around back in the 20s 30s 40s, started to change around the 50s
