And if you think that's part of the plan, can you explain the rather effective reclamation program, the ridiculous amount of effort and precious electricity routed to the SRB, and the heightened security inside the institution that pisses everyone off.

Just because they are not human beings does not mean they are "fake" and should be slaughtered. If we cracked open a cave underground IRL and found a bunch of hominid cats that thought and felt, had memories and such, but underlying different bodily systems and genetics as well as lengthened lifespans; would you just say "oh no a threat, lets murder all of them". Also synths ARE organic, otherwise the gen3's would not have needed Shawn for his untainted genetics . Sure they are largely bio-engineered, and likely have integrated technology. But why does it matter whether a mother or a machine folds the proteins and codes the DNA? and we humans will throw on an electric/mechanical arm after an accident. They are called synths aswell as ANDROIDS, not robots. They are conscious, clearly feel things like love, pain, and all the other human emotions Curie's storyline confirms this , and in all other ways are aware and sentient. They are not any more dangerous than humans and obviously have no innate alliance with the institution, beyond harsh punishments and indoctrination. Sure you can wipe and alter memories but they can do that to humans too at the memory den. If you are with the railroad and empathize with synths, great that just makes sense for the emotional human. If you are with the institute and reclaim synths, great it's logical that one own's that which they create (ya this could be said about children too, but note that you feed, for nine months bio-house, and otherwise nurture a human being that creates itself, you don't actually construct any of the cells except 1 and owning a tenth of a trillionth doesnt equal owning), hell even if you side with the brotherhood and don't like the institute as a threat to security, fabulous. and I only started playing ME after they finished all the "DLC" for MA 2
I was bored one day and decided to try the first one, I was hooked and haflway into my playhrough I started downloading MA 2 + all DLC
but then there's DA, which made one great game, one "what the holy **** did they do" game, and one decent, but ultimately boring game because most of the time you run around and collect ore in huge areas with a max lvl for enemies
first time around, I couldn't even finish it because I was so bored
and month later, I found it was just a handful of main quests and ton of regular boring "go there, kill/pick up that, come back" quests with minimal story
DA O was so great in everything but the kinda slow, boring looking combat, but hey, gotta accept the one lesser thing if you want Oghren
so yeah, DA came after ME
