I saw your comment when I finished the video and realized you played me like I was a fiddle even though I wasn't a ******* who checks the comments first.
The fact that it will forever go down as one of the most popular games of our generation, not including one of the best selling, is already enough of a reason to hate it
I dont think that was a good explanation. You even said you dont hate the game just the creator and that he made early access popular and then gave me an explanation for how another game, DayZ was awful because it had early access and know you blame minecraft for it. So i still think its a shallow reason.
Its the same thing as a film critic hating when people say that Avatar, Toy Story 3, or is the best movie ever. It encourages mediocrity in an industry that you love.
If you overhype and put a game/movie/show on such a high pillar that it will genuinely be put into history books on the subject, at least make it so that the thing is more than a stolen idea made by the king of fags on an engine that runs like **** . I dislike the creator, I disliked his practices on the game, and while the game did end up pretty good (*COUGH* I DO NOT ACTUALLY HATE THE GAME ITSELF *COUGH*) it is not the next messiah of video games, and I just hate what it represents for the industry.
A perfect example of this is DayZ. I do not like DayZ, its not that fun to me and that's ok. People could play the free mod from Arma 2 and have as much fun as they wanted with no effect on me. Instead, Dean "The biggest ******* dickwad in gaming" "Rocket" Hall created the DayZ standalone in early access. A fine concept! Take that unoptimized mod, get a nice crew together and fix it up, and actually earn some money for your own original ideas! The American Dream right there!
Only he doesn't do that at all. He ***** up the standalone worse than the mod, doesn't even include half of the stuff from the mod at all, doesn't move off the ****** unoptimized engine from the mod, and generally receives a good amount of well deserved criticism and hate.
Oh wait, no he doesn't. He receives millions of dollars from sales of a broken ****** early access game that is carried up on the hype of millions saying "But yeah it will get better!"
Fast forward almost over 2 years now, and the mod is still broken, still unoptimized, and still behind the mod. 2 years. On top of that, Dean "The ******* faggot" Hall LEAVES the company, goes and makes another company, and is now ******* starting another early access game.
This game is what created ****** Early Access games, this is what showed developers "Hey gamers still hype this **** up and buy it just because its popular!" So everyone and their grandma has an early access game on Steam, and something like 95% of them all suck dick, and all of those dick sucking games still make tons of money off of a scam.
Like I said it was **** phrasing on my part in the first comment.
I'm saying that I think minecraft is an alright game but it spawned early access which is now the biggest source of **** in the industry. It created something that hurts an industry I am a part of, thus, I dislike it.
That's not fair to blame minecraft. They might have started it but they did early access the right way, it's not their fault people abused it. Whoever did that is the one at fault.
It's like hating the guy who invented rope because people abuse it with suicide. That wasn't his fault, nor is it Minecraft's.
So you hate it because other people like it again is what it boils down to? Minecraft was finished, more or less, and now all they're really doing is bugfixes anymore. A simple concept, sure, but it's one of the most enjoyable casual games I've ever played.
Not really once again. If everyone in the world hated minecraft, I would still hate it because I disliked the creator, I disliked his practices, and the game will go down as one of the top 10 games to mention 15 to 20 years from now even though it didn't do anything special for the industry other than start early access games. Its legacy didn't help the industry, its hurting it through people abusing early access with promises to "be like minecraft." Like I explained before, I enjoy the game enough, it did what it set out to do, and it was an early access game that actually delivered on being early access (too bad no one follows their example on it, but that's a different story). As a future game developer myself, its just disheartining when peoples' idea of the best games aren't the ones with a great story, or an awesome new gameplay feature, its "minecraft is very cool I got to build stuff with blocks"
I mean, hate the creator, not the game. I think it's unfair to ask games to leave behind a legacy in order to not be hated. League of Legends is (I think still) the most played game in the world. What legacy has it left? Not much of one other than making more MOBAs. That doesn't make it bad.
I'd say it more so helped modern esports maintain itself and actually grow more than it ever has before.
It also showed that there was a market for MOBAs which in turn convinced Valve to make Dota 2 and Hi-Rez to make Smite, both of which are also great games. The downside of this is also that it spun off many other **** MOBAs, but it was worth those other two at least.
I'm not asking every game to leave a stupendous legacy that everyone can get behind, but I also think that its not hard to do something with your game worthwhile. Some great games like Hotline Miami, Terraria, and Antichamber are all minimally funded indie games that all show something fun and new to explore in the industry and they do it well.
Like I said, Early Access is the legacy of Minecraft and it is not specifically the games fault that EA ended up to be such a **** stain on the industry
While Minecraft pretty much reached the pinnacle of popularity, it's not the same thing as calling it the best game ever, or pretending it's not an incomplete game like DayZ. Minecraft's not really my kind of game without mods, but it accomplished more than what it originally set out to do.
Besides, that wasn't even what you said in your first comment - you complained about it being popular and best selling, not that it was overhyped. Might have been easier to get your opinion across if you changed your phrasing. I don't even blame the developers for following this practice or their games for sucking - clearly it works so a big part of gamers must be huge gullible faggots.
Yeah, in the light that Minecraft was technically one of the first Early Access games of the time, it is good to know that they pushed all the way to the full 1.0 release, and even are up to 1.8 as of now. Everyone at Mojang that wasn't Notch seemed to fully support Minecraft as long as people still played it.
And yeah, **** phrasing, I'll take the thumbs down I didn't really care about that. Just thought I'd at least let the people who commented that I'm not that huge of a fag, only a little
I don't really blame the developers either. If you are going to be making **** games you might as well make **** games that will sell.
I like it because at the end, the song basically tells the viewer the guy who made this got tried and just stopped working on the video
But can't disagree, the one you posted was ******* amazing
I always thought the Farlands was creepy. I don't really know why but just the idea of the world you played in minecraft ending in something as unsettling as a jagged, broken terrain named the "farlands" always gave me chills. You weren't supposed to even see it and yet, it's always there. Always keeping your world in a cage.
