When exactly did the "he was a good friend" part come up in the movies? In the first movie, Anakin's like 6. In 2 and 3, he constantly bitches about/fights with Obi-wan. It's probably expounded upon more in the Clone Wars series and other **** , but they never really seemed like friends.
Clone Wars series. Honestly just watch that and pretend the prequels don't exist.
I mean, Padawans and their Masters almost always end up having a very close bond. Anakin and Obi-Wan were the closest thing they either had to a family so despite their frustration and arguments with each other, they did care for each other very much. Keep in mind that when Anakin was ordered to kill all the Jedi, fighting Obi was his very last choice, he wanted him to join the Dark Side with him.
Also, in the Clone Wars series and in the books you see a lot more friendly interaction with each other, where they actually act as friends.

you should watch both clone war series. both the 2d and 3d. and maybe read some of the books, although theyre now noncannon..but still theyre good for stories on this matter.
Well in AotC the reason is because of Anakins nightmares of his mother and then the death of his mother, theres still some nice scenes in 2 like in the elevator, the conversation in Padmes apartment where they discuss Anakins nightmares, the speeder chase and bar entrance, also the heated discussion aboard the republic gunship.
In the beginning of episode 3 they feel like good friends, but then Anakin starts having similar nightmares with Padme instead of his mother which makes him worried for her safety. Theres also a really nice scene before Obi Wan leaves to Utapau where Anakin how proud he is over him. And yes, its expanded in the clone wars series

I've got that game, the hud and gameplay look different...could be mods for it?

Obi-Wan tells Luke that he and Anakin were good friends.
He also tells Anakin that he loved him like a brother at some point (I think when they're fighting, it's been awhile since I've watched the prequels.) I'm pretty sure he also tells Yoda that he thinks of Anakin as a good friend, if not a brother.
He says it quite a few times.
Or were you trying to say when did it seem like they were good friends? If so I dunno know. They mostly did master/padawan **** in the movies, but I guess fighting along side somebody you're bound to build a bond.

That's where the prequels **** up. They just establish the relationship by having them say "we are good friends." "Yes we are good friends".
It's never really shown and doesn't come off as genuine.

That's my entire point. We don't see it. You can't weave a genuine relationship without showing the important parts of it.
Before Obi Wan leaves to duel General Grievous theres a nice scene where Obi wan tells Anakin how proud he is over him.
Yeah. he says it a bunch, but they never get along for one second. A well, it's just another dumb thing from the prequels. We already have clairvoyant Padme, who somehow knew exactly where Anakin and Obi-Wan were fighting Dooku. We have awful CGI, which includes a door that Anakin's head just phases right through.
It sounds like half of that doesn't appear in the movies, which is my point. Two instances over 3 movies doesn't really establish much, especially considering we have 10 times as many instances of them fighting, and half as many instances of one of them chopping the other's limbs off and leaving him to die.
Most of the **** is the only thing that didnt appear in the movies. the 9 times saving was mentioned in the movies. the two others happened in the movies.
also the whole saga was about anakins downfall to the dark side. so yeah ofcourse there would be fighting happening. and most of the in fighting happened in episode 3.

Yeah, we only see **** as it starts to fall apart, but they mention the other things that they've done once or twice in the prequels. We just didn't get see the time between 6 year old Anakin - Full grown Anakin. That's a lot of time for them to spend together that we didn't get to see.
Just bad writing.
You can't just SAY two characters are good friends.... you have to show it.

I get that. It just seems like the prequels could've benefitted from a less bloated narrative.
The new Darth Vader comics, the Obi-Wan and Anakin comics, or the old EU ones?
