well technically the old soviet union was actually democratic, you could vote for a communist canidate... or a communist canidate, by all regards it was a democracy, just a totalitarian democracy

Communists aren't they only ones who use "democratic" and "people" in their names to make it seem like the rule is legit, organized and justified. The Democratic Republic of Congo is another example, who are not communist.

Yeah, I'm free to do those things or not do them. It's up to me what I want to do with my life. What's shown in your pic, that's the common path, because not everyone can be special snowflakes. Certain people, such as film stars, famous authors, high-ranking authority figures...they don't have to do half of that **** , because they are the special snowflakes. The government doesn't tell me my future, I decide for myself if I want to pursue a middle class life or if I want to put in the extra effort and reach higher. Same as in any other First-World country.
I get it, you were just poking fun, nothing to get butthurt over. That picture is edgy as hell, though, and was probably made by someone who actually believed it's message. Kinda bugs me

But don't you need to do those things to survive? Like you could avoid driving and getting married but don't you WANT to do those things? This seems like complaining for the sake of complaining. The only alternative you have is death because no matter where you go you're going to have to work.

This actually reminds me of a discussion we had in a college English class a few days ago. What is shown in the picture is people conforming, but is going against that not conforming? The so-called rebellious teenagers are conforming to a different set of ideals, but in effect, are still conforming. So is there really such a thing as a non-conformist?

**** blew my mind

Learn to drive? Feel free not to; it's your problem when walking everywhere starts taking too long
Get a job? Ya, if you want income, but you know, feel free to live on the streets and have no possessions and what not
Go to work? Read "get a job"
Get a girlfriend? No one says you have to, you twat
Have children? Again, who said you have to?
Follow fashion? You're always following some fashion whether it be popular or not
Act normal? People act as they please, but if you want to be a lunatic then feel free.
Walk on the pavement? Enjoy getting hit by 4000 pounds of industrial machine at 45 mph, you idiot.
Watch TV? I repeat; who said you have to?
Obey the law? Or you know, go to jail, your choice. The law in America is generally not too bad to follow.
Save for your old age? My retired grandfather travels the world. He saved like every other smart person does. I hope you like concrete for a bed at the age of 65.

This is going to sound extremely judgmental and aggressive, but I wish the U.S., Russia, Europe, and China could all just cooperate together to just bitch slap North Korea into the right decade. It's not even this, they've been extremely unruly and threatened several nations with both conventional and nuclear attacks. Not only that, but they deceive their own people and really are the definition of brainwashing; they have their media say just whatever they want them to and have them believing they are significant in the world and that other nations are in ruins. If they don't do something catastrophically stupid such as launching a nuke at another nation then they'll undoubtedly cause some other kind of disaster due to sheer negligence and stupidity. I'm not saying we need to attack but we definitely need to remove most if not all of their leaders and put in it' place a new government; whether it's capitalist, communist, a democracy, or whatever. Even their closest "allies" are kind-of in danger of what they might get dragged into due to N. Korea....there's my rant for the day...

It's problematic because both the US and China wish NK to remain a buffer-zone for the two countries in case of an actual war. If NK gets rid of its current government, both the US and China wouldn't want it to become the other's ally.
#200 to #153 - lordsnow (02/13/2014) [-]
That's true. That's also why I think that if aliens exist they'd never come here. We can't even get over our own petty conflicts and greed. I mean if we could all cooperate as a planet instead of nations then we could be capable of so much more good.
User avatar #56 to #2 - gearshift (02/13/2014) [-]
Well, since they've never actually launched a formal attack, something like that would be seen as a declaration of war by North Korea, and despite bing the absolute butt of all jokes, they do have some military power and can cause quite a bit of damage before being taken down.

It's less costly, and more persevering to peacetime to just leave them as they are.

Besides, if they do have a nuke and we try to attack them, that nuke's gonna be immediately halfway up south korea's butt.
#188 to #56 - nebraskaom (02/13/2014) [-]
Technically North and South Korea are still at war. But I get your point.
#205 to #188 - lordsnow (02/13/2014) [-]
Exactly, part of me thinks NK will eventually take initiative and attack another nation either conventionally or with WMD's and I think if we went to war with them part of it would definitely be setting up extensive missile defenses to clip their nuclear launch capability. Also referencing gearshift, I was under the impression that they have a very large but outdated military similar to Saddam Hussein's in the first Gulf War, in which case their military might not be that big a threat.

And afterwards all the countries are going to fight over which government should be instated
#182 to #100 - John Cena (02/13/2014) [-]
I'm not saying this is how it will end up going, but i feel the best way for the countries to choose would be to either split NK like they did Germany after wwii or simply go "ok who want's responsibility to take care of this ******** ?" and if the latter happens, then China will probably do it cuz Russia don't give a **** and the US is so far in debt that they'd rather just let China exploit NK than handle cleaning it up themselves.

tl;dr they either split North Korea or leave it to China to fix
#51 to #2 - kmichel (02/13/2014) [-]
Unlike Syria, Afghanistan, or Iraq, there's probably no oil or gas worth exploiting. Or if there is, it's not worth the conflict with China. I wish they would invade too. Putting 3 generations of your family in jail for life just because one person tried to escape, people forced to eat grass and insects just to survive, and human medical experimentation on par with that of the Nazi's? Yeah, I'd support a war fought for moral reasons, but unfortunately that's not going to happen.

I see where you're coming from, but another war is the last thing we need. Korea has it's own problems and if they attack we should retaliate, but is it too much to ask to live some of my life with my country in peace?

Just FYI, we would have to go to war to remove their leaders, just like we did with Saddam Hussein.
#192 to #189 - lordsnow (02/13/2014) [-]
True, but on the other hand their military is incredibly outdated and I honestly believe we could bomb them into near helplessness as in the first Gulf War, I will admit that actually finding their leaders would be more difficult. Also I'm making an ideal situation where literally most of the world contributed WWII style, England. the EU, America, Russia, China; everyone cooperating to eliminate the biggest threat to nuclear war on earth.
User avatar #201 to #192 - demigodofmadness (02/13/2014) [-]
I mean it's a very small country and the U.S. already has troops in South Korea, not sure which/if any other countries do. Any 1st world country can send it's Navy in to surround their tiny little PoS island and planes could drop special forces off from the air while South Korea and any troops station there march in. Their country is so small and military so weak I can't imagine taking it over to take any time at all.

But we're not faster than Kim Jong Un with his hand on the nuke button. If his nukes can't make it to the U.S. or Europe he could nuke South Korea or China and in our sympathetic world we don't want North Korea civilian casualties let alone any other countries civilian casualties. Who's to say the crazy bastard wouldn't nuke himself either? Hitler would have if he had nukes instead of pills.

And even if we make it through all that and unite the Koreas and eventually both Koreas are pro LoL and Starcraft players, if it was the U.S. we would have troops stationed there for hundreds of years to come to "Ensure the peace".

If the special forces are Spetznaz and the navy is British and the ground forces are chinese I'd be all for it, but America has a problem with involving itself in other countries business and I'd prefer if we kept our nose where it belonged for a while. Maybe then we can lower our military budget and focus on some important things, like stem cell research, or more realistic sex dolls.
#202 to #201 - lordsnow (02/13/2014) [-]
I do definitely agree we need to step back from foreign military intervention. Our foreign relations is practically trash because of it, so maybe instead of "world police" mode we just be a progressive nation willing to help others when needed, defend innocents from oppression, and lend our strength to the just causes of others.

Also, is anyone REALLY sure they even have nukes? I know they say they do but part of me thinks they may have made a foolhardy attack by now if they did. They seem to have extreme technological difficulties so even if they had them they may not work. A crucial question would of course be making sure we have the capability to intercept any missiles they would launch.

Lastly, I really do think it's a matter of time before they launch a nuke or have a nuclear accident of their own like Chernobyl where they destroy part of their own nation or, god forbid, nuke themselves. So with that threat then I believe taking the initiative and attempting to stop them before they can act is better.

#190 to #187 - lordsnow (02/13/2014) [-]
I'm not saying Americanize it, not at all, history has shown that does not work. It can be any kind of government set-up by anyone even China or Russia, they still would not be doing what NK does on a regular basis; it threatens several other nations with nuclear war and feeds their own citizens massive lies, they are practically a third world country.

As I've commented several times more, I didn't mean America attacking or intervening, i mean the WORLD does it. I know that's naive and unrealistic, that's why I said "I wish"

Also while we have intervened for some good reasons, others have been bad; or been good at the beginning but ended badly. In a way I think we have this ingrained fear after WWII and the Cold War when we let other nations conquer smaller ones unchecked and then these horrible wars resulted. So instead we try to cut off those threats before they manifest and even go overboard intervening against anyone who seems dangerous and making ourselves look overbearing.

As much as China has frozen relations with NK, they still wouldn't want united Korea, the American ally, at their borders. What you wrote, will happen when there won't be any more tensions between China and USA with their allies, which will, considering that China still has claims on some of Japanese, Taiwanese and Phillipine islands, never happen.
User avatar #175 to #22 - kungfulouie (02/13/2014) [-]
You can call me paranoid if you want, but I think China only "shows" breaking ties with NK. I think it's like they have this "lawless" area in their pocket, and can do whatever they want there, with no questions asked, completely under the international radar. NK gets blamed for whatever, gives the world the finger, and everybody has free reign on all sorts of crazy **** . Why would they ever give up their pocket secret?
#24 to #22 - lordsnow (02/12/2014) [-]
But at a certain point I think that China will realize tht NK's current leadership is so unstable that they're in constant danger of being dragged into WW3 and they'll want to do something. I mean even if China just put in a puppet dictatorship I think it'd do better than their current government.

Yes, the Hand of the King was killed suspiciously ("Whatever it was it burned right through him.") and so the new Hand visits the maester (like a doctor) and asks if it was possible he was poisoned and says that poison is a woman's weapon. The maester says that it's a eunuch's weapon too in order to try to put the blame on Lord Varys. Varys is the bald one in this gif. He is known as The Spider because he is the Master of Whispers (basically has spies around the world and knows things that he really shouldn't which is why he's called The Spider because it's like he's just sitting up in the corner listening SPOILER he actually has access to a secret tunnel system within the castle.

Don't read this if he haven't read the books and/or plan to watch the show: It was actually the dead hand's wife that killed him. She was talked into by the guy on the right in this gif.

I really like Game of Thrones.

I'll give you that we have been part of some unjust causes in the past, but I also think that a nation that even threatens to use WMD's on another nation is much too dangerous. The entire Cold War was basically built on the fear of one nation using a nuke on the other, and NK seems willing to use them on anyone at the drop of a hat

I don't think you quite understand, North Korea is like that one kid in your grade school class who talks down to people on the playground and constantly goes on about how much better he is compared to everyone else. No one actually believes him, but no one bothers to stop him because he's worth more entertainment value than an actual threat to anyone.

Any time he's asked to participate in anything, he just ***** it up, or does none of the work, and then declares himself the linchpin in the whole process.
