Well that's unusual for a python. No wait, it's not. It has happened before and there are species of snake that like a few alligators per year. Take the anaconda, they like alligators, they mainly eat rats but still.

yeah there is one documented case of one eating a person, and that was partially out of self defense. And why are you naming the big preys? They hardly ever eat that despite the giant and green anaconda being able too. Their main diet consists of rats, fish and other small (mostly water dwelling) creatures.

I remember seeing somewhere that a tactic of Anaconda, like crocodiles, is to wait for large prey to take a drink and take advantage of the distraction. And, the reverse of your statement, that they will purse smaller prey but prefer larger meals.

Well every big predator basically does that. And of course they prefer the big ones, but the small ones make up most of their diet. Although Anacondas are capable of lying still for weeks without any food just waiting for prey like the big boas and pythons, it's relatively active and spends a lot of it's time swimming, chasing rats, fish and frogs. of course the smaller species and the younger ones of the bigger species do this the most, but even a 10 meter specimen could easily support himself with such small prey. And sometimes they just do.
