Wait for defrost? What?
Just scrape it off. Takes a minute, maybe two.

It aint that easy sometimes, scraping will never get it all if its -30 and theres a half inch of ice across your whole windshield.

Even just regular nighttime condensation on windshields can be nearly impossible to scrape off sometimes. If its cold enough, de-icer spray will freeze, your wiper fluid will freeze, ive even had my antifreeze gel up.

here in North Texas which incidentally doesn't refer to the panhandle if there's a 1/8 inch of snow we just shut down everything for 3 days and then continue as usual.

Well, it's -30 just last night and -27 during the day, so I think I know what I'm talking about.

Try different angles and forces.
