Thanks bro

It's also true that part of the reason why those dinosaurs seem lifelike to us watching it is that we've never seen real dinosaurs, so we have no grounds for comparison for things like textures and movement.
#23 to #11 - anon (7 hours ago) [-]
They seemed lifelike to you? Damn, I'll have what you're having.
Seriously though, CGI blows
#46 to #23 - sgtmajjohnson (4 hours ago) [-]
Do you mean that CGI specifically, or all CGI? Because have you seen Blur studios? Pic related, because of my account's name.

I have one for the tooth of a Rex
User avatar #47 to #12 - sgtmajjohnson (4 hours ago) [-]
To be fair, they did also mention that the dinosaurs were modified to look more like what the public wanted.
#26 to #11 - oakleysama (6 hours ago) [-]
Actually, through basic anatomy and through skin/feather impressions we do know what some dinosaurs truly looked like and how they moved. We even now know the actual colors of some dinosaurs due to how well preserved there feathers are (look up Anchiornis huxleyi for the most popular example). Also here is what a modern day dinosaur looks like.

******* emus are so raptor-like. In Far Cry 3, they were scarier than the tigers.

Except the excessive use of CGI over the practical effects was definitely one of the movie's bad points. CGI is good for a lot of things, but I think they really overdid it in some places. All the CGI just ended up looking really plastic and fake.
User avatar #24 to #16 - wimwam (7 hours ago) [-]
I wish hollywood would take note of this. "Good" CGI is CGI that you don't notice.

I thought it was an okay movie, and pretty good as far as reboots go.
User avatar #14 to #13 - guitarassassin (8 hours ago) [-]
It was certainly enjoyable, but I wouldn't call it good.
User avatar #17 to #14 - keatontheghostfox (7 hours ago) [-]
I agree, was OK for a movie, not a timeless film as the original was though

mosasaurus vs megalodon
User avatar #54 to #49 - WolfPrince (3 hours ago) [-]
They were seperated by millions of years, the only reasons sharks grew to megalodons size is because the giant reptiles died out, leaving a neiche that needed filling. Just like your mum m8

breaking news pokemons are not real creatures, peta have been filed a suit by Nintendo for harassing over animal abuse claims that had cost Nintendo millions of unsold pokemon games.
#31 - DrFlanigan (5 hours ago) [-]
Every time I see this I think about how ******* stupid the "joke" is.

You do understand that they aren't saying SEE THEY DIDNT USE REAL DINOSAURS ITS ALL CGI

They are saying use CGI animals.

Anyone who thinks "wow those vegans are ******* stupid" is an idiot.

And no I'm not a Vegan.
User avatar #44 to #31 - robotvoice (4 hours ago) [-]
how many living [moving] animals are in the movie not counting dinosaurs.
User avatar #59 to #31 - symmiie ONLINE (44 minutes ago) [-]
Not a Vegan, still dumb though.
User avatar #43 to #31 - Tyranitar (5 hours ago) [-]
Are you really defending PETA?

They kill 95% of the animals they save. They are a cancer and I honestly wouldn't feel bad if every single ******* member of it was annihilated by a nuclear warhead.
User avatar #48 to #43 - lipidregent (3 hours ago) [-]
Maybe you should be named TyRANTitar

But yeah what peta does is ********

User avatar #56 - ultronyourgod ONLINE (2 hours ago) [-]
Wait UP used real life dinosaurs?? Like one that lives, breathes and walks amounts us? And here i always thought they used robots for the scenes where they didn't use CGI.
Joking
#50 - anon (3 hours ago) [-]
I like CGI when it complements background and adds some detail (like in Mad MAx - backgrounds use CGI heavily), but somehow my brain can instantly tell that it is fake, when CGI comes to foreground.
In JP all dinosaurs felt .. well, like cartoons. No matter how well made.
Even the most advanced 3D models still leave that subtle impression they are fake.

Bringing CGI to the foreground should be preserved where either the whole Picture is in the same semi-computer-generated style (like "Beowulf" or even better - The Witcher trailers) or where the overall style of the movie does not rely on making the CGI characters in the foreground realistic (like "The Guardians of the Galaxy", Iron man etc.).

Why CG Sucks (Except It Doesn't)
you should see this if you havent yet.

How do you always manage to farm heaps a thumbs with the oldest moldiest content ever
#51 to #34 - anon (3 hours ago) [-]
why do you care for virtual thumbs?

you should care for educating yourself, putting up a business and ******* girls ;)
#52 to #51 - randomuploads (3 hours ago) [-]
Because I'm human and humans crave recognition. Besides, I'm just curious why this gets thumbs, I've seen it a million times since that movie came out.
#21 - anon (7 hours ago) [-]
but what about all those animal actors? they need work to eat.
User avatar #15 - TheBobby (8 hours ago) [-]
that's not what the tweet was trying to say...
User avatar #6 - herecomesjohnny (10 hours ago) [-]
Because it's easy to make CGI creatures without fur. WITH fur however, cg animals come out ugly and inauthentic. Remember the movie 10,000BC? yup.
