It's also true that part of the reason why those dinosaurs seem lifelike to us watching it is that we've never seen real dinosaurs, so we have no grounds for comparison for things like textures and movement.

Actually, through basic anatomy and through skin/feather impressions we do know what some dinosaurs truly looked like and how they moved. We even now know the actual colors of some dinosaurs due to how well preserved there feathers are (look up Anchiornis huxleyi for the most popular example). Also here is what a modern day dinosaur looks like.
******* emus are so raptor-like. In Far Cry 3, they were scarier than the tigers.

Those're cassowaries, not emus.
Cassowaries are much nastier.

In FC3 or the picture? Because I think they're cassowaries in FC3, but not the picture.

Yeah, there are no emus in FC3, the birds in that game are cassowaries.

I mean the kind of CGI you notice sucks. For example, in your pic, you can't really tell if that's a real person or a computer generated image. Therefore, it is "good" CGI. If you can go "yup, that thing looks fake" or "those actors look like they are in front of a green screen" then it sucks. And before you say anything about dinosaurs not being real, I can tell you that the puppets in the old one had much more of a presence than the new one's CGI dinos ever did.
To be fair, they did also mention that the dinosaurs were modified to look more like what the public wanted.
