Honestly, I think that you would do that because you're a nice person, not that you want a thank you.

But it's common courtesy to say thanks

While I'm not hungry for thanks when I do those kinds of things, it does tell me a little about the person if they can't be arsed to squelch out a small "thanks" for someone helping them.

when i hold doors open i do it just to be nice, no thanks are necessary to just be a good person

If someone holds the door open for you you say "Thanks". Its no ******* hard and excepting a little common courtesy doesn't make you an asshole.

It's kind of disckish to expect a thanks as a reward for doing something kind. It's bad manners in itself.

But manners are simply a part of our social construct that only benefits society and is unfortunately disappearing. Plus words are cheap and if people said nice things half as much as they cussed the world would be a nicer place.

this is great. it's one thing if they weren't paying attention but come on they really couldn't notice that they didn't open the door and that someone else did. that's just being oblivious and not paying attention to your surroundings. i would have yelled out Thank You as well, if anything not for gratitude but to show them to pay attention sometimes.

Does anyone else hate it when you hold the door open for someone, then they put their hand on it like you're going to let it close on them anyway?
#46 - caplocker (12/03/2013) [-]
I'll let a door slam in anyone's face. The few that act like you're hitting on their fat asses can't get the concept of being polite, so **** all of them. Women will avoid touching the door and let it slam on you. I'm all for equality, open your own ****** door.

That probably happen in a place where 'holding the door' is uncommon. I understand that she must at least say thanks or smile to him, but she is talking to her friend and probably don't pay attention to him. Admit it, there's a time where you don't pay attention and do something that might hurt other's feeling

That rustled in the end is just pure autism. Why not just say 'thank you' in sarcasm tone while smiling to them? I bet the girls just think he's weird and runs away. Personally if someone gets mad to me just because a very small problem, but I don't know wtf is going on because not paying attention, I would stay away from him and give a 'wtf bruh' look to them.

After a quick search, it's exactly what I said it probably was.

> holds door for someone leaving

what the **** was this guy doing?
no wonder the girls avoided him

if you are holding a door you are holding it for someone that:
a) is already exiting or entering and you are also entering or exiting
b) requests / needs assistance to open the door
