The problem is, groups like this are out there declaring luxuries as basic human rights every day, and people believe them.

You don't have a natural and universal right to something that didn't even exist 100 years ago.

We have no rights. Your government can take your rights away just fine as the list gets shorter every year. And rights arent rights if someone can just take them away.

What we have are temporary priviledges.

There are three natural rights: Life, Liberty, and Property.

All else is negotiable.

This actually makes a lot of sense. In America at least, Internet access is pretty much vital for getting work.

.....probably because it takes away the freedom of speech when otherwise some people don't have access to the press. Or am i wrong?

I love the internet, but this really bugs me. Internet access is not a ******* human right.
Human rights are not contextual; They're universal, and the principles they're based on never die. This is because a human right deals with the fundamentals of what it means to be human. A right is applied to the current state of human affairs, not the other way around.

It's incredibly out of touch to state "The internet is a right" while people all over the world don't enjoy such luxuries.

But there is a good side to this: Several rights, such as the right of free speech, can be applied to the internet. It could be considered a violation of human rights if a government denies you the right to practice free speech on the internet. But you are not entitled to internet access.

TL;DR: The UN is retarded, internet access isn't a right, it's an extension of our existing universal rights.

People complaining about internet being a luxury need to reread exactly what it says.

It doesn't say that the internet is a basic human right. It says that disconnecting people from the internet is a violation of human rights. The point is that preventing someone from having access to a communications technology they already own is a violation of their rights because it is repressing their ability to communicate.

This is just another excuse for some overprivileged kids to go around and whine even more about things they're lucky to have. So many people that use this as an excuse or try to bring this up as a valid point in an argument are the kind of people that think that things like internet are "Rights"
